it's in the richmond el cerrito area. it is a fatal accident all started with a police chase around 2:30 this morning ended up with one person being killed. the on-ramp remains shut down westbound 80 there by central avenue. they hope to re-open the on- ramp by 5:30. you can use eastbound 580 on- ramp to access the freeway in the area. we are told the main lines of the freeway are not really impacted. you can get through okay. it's only about an 18-minute drive time on westbound 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze. live look at the golden gate bridge, hey, got some flashing lights out there doing some lane changes. you can see the crew guys out there now. they should be opening four southbound lanes to commuter traffic. we have some overnight roadwork still out there up and down the nimitz. typically as you head toward the embarcadero downtown oakland, specifically northbound but not impacting your drive time so far and should be picked up in the next 15 minutes. and westbound 580 still clear out of the altamont pass

it is backed up all the way out to the el cerrito area. if you look at pictures i know a lot of people are listening to our show now. but if you can see how this picture is different from the one we normally show you, normally the traffic is moving much better than this. right now its not moving very well at all. and people don't have a lot of options. get one of the buses or get into this traffic getting into the city. and it started early and i have a feeling it will stay with us for awhile. also the commute as i look at the rest of the bay area i wanted to point it out on the maps here. see where all the red is? the red is especially getting up to the bay bridge toll plaza and all the freeways where there is no normally bart service. when we look at the south bay maps, we don't see a lot going on. we certainly do see a lot going on on 680. as we get farther south into the bay area, we don't see as much. we do see slow traffic in dublin. that is not typical. 880 is slow from 238. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. good morning, everyb

they caught up with the victim's car at a parking lot near the richmond, el cerrito border. but the shooting they believe actually occurred on northbound 880 between davis street and marina boulevard here in san leandro. that reported just before 10:00 last night. that's where the incident started between a car and a pickup truck. >> there was some type of altercation between two vehicles, one a white truck and the other being that honda accord. altercation where one shot was fired through the passenger side of the honda accord striking the passenger, we believe in the leg, fairly minor injury as far as we know at this point. >> reporter: that passenger who was shot believed to be a woman, taken to john muir medical center with non-life threatening injuries. a lot of questions, again, this happened between hayward and san leandro, not reported until later about 20 miles away from where the incident happened. we are in touch with them. but another issue is there is a language barrier in their investigation. reporting live in san leandro, christie smith, "today in the bay." >>
