like last night, too, elizabeth warren or bernie sanders.nk, you know, one of the things i took from last night is why it's so important that we whittle this field down. we have, as i said, we have this ironic situation where unpopular positions were articulated much more strongly than popular positions. and what i want to see now is on stage bernie sanders and elizabeth warren go toe to toe with the people who aren't for their version of medicare for all, joe biden and -- rest of the field. i think tonight you're going to see nine candidates who don't believe in the sanders or warren version, and the guy defending sanders and warren is bill de blasio. and he's not a very popular guy. so it's going to be a very, very different thing. and so i want to see them together. >> i'm so fascinated by the klobuchar performance last night. she had this burst of energy when she first announced because people saw her as, you know, potentially being able to win the moderate vote in a way that wouldn't just be for joe biden. that this space isn't just for

elizabeth warren at 8% and pete buttigieg at 3%. >> that's a number that elizabeth warren has been wellshe needs to work on really from day one. you know, you saw her even before she announced giving a big speech at a historically black college in baltimore where she laid out some of the themes about housing, her opposition, and her understanding of red lining and the effect that's had on black communities. she's consistently been hammering that message again and again and again before white and black audiences quite frankly. but you haven't seen it move the needle yet. and i know that they've also -- the campaign has worked hard with black influencers. in that area, particularly younger female black influencers, you've seen them change their minds a little bit. you've seen them come along, people who were suspicious of her in the past, on twitter saying good things about her. for that to translate to actual numbers, you're absolutely right. that's a difficult number for her. i will also say, you know, with south carolina, which is, of course, the forth in this first of four primaries,

we'll have elizabeth warren and bernie sanders.rgue that they're in the same lane, right? >> right. >> they're to the left, they're progressive, they're also friends. how do they differentiate from one another? >> i don't think there's a lot of space there between the two ideologically, but i do think it's a misnomer to say she's only pulling votes away from bernie sanders. i think that's inside the beltway chatter class talk. she also resonates very well with black women which pulls away from kamala harris. she's an hbcu graduate. people assume that would be a camp that harris would win, but warren has been speaking specifically to that voting bloc, chipping away at that. i don't know that these rematch analogies that we keep giving, i don't know that that's accurate once you get out of this space. >> and tonight -- that's a very interesting point that she can probably try to differentiate herself from a number of candidates. but doing so next to bernie sanders, considering they're cordial. they have a friendship. how do they do t

elizabeth warren running twice as strong as bernie sanders among very liberal voters. warren doesn't need the fight. does sanders? >> i think he might. i think he certainly needs to show in response to some of these attacks from moderates that he can speak to a set of voters who aren't necessarily already sold on all of his ideas. warren has actually shown a certain amount of range in this race in terms of being able to go into relatively moderate contacts, conservative parts of the country, and frame her ideas as directly relevant to those people. bernie sanders sort of plays the same song in every venue. doesn't mean he doesn't have appeal in the red states. he does to the economic populist base there. but for a lot of democrats who have a hangover from 2016 or are suspicious of the idea somebody that calls themself a democratic socialist can win an election. how they field criticism from john hickenlooper or john delaney who sound like the moderate white guy voters out there who may find some of these ideas interesting but have reservations about the cost or feasibil

and that person is elizabeth warren. elizabeth warren has grown steadily over time. and she has increased her share of the vote among many different parts of the democratic coalition. and a long-term, slow steady climb is a better indicator of success than sugar high bump in the polls after the debate. moments like that can be helpful, we saw that in the last debate. but i'm interesting to see if people are going to pay attention to elizabeth warren tonight and attack her to criticize her. she's a tough person to come at because she won -- is she is st substantive, she has a policy and has she has a message. having a message is defense, offense, everything at once. she's a woman in the democratic primary, she's increasingly be loved. it's difficult to criticize her. bernie sanders has said he's not going to say anything. but she's pulling support from a variety of different candidates, including joe bide ebb, bernie sanders and kamala harris. it's going to be interesting to see as she climbs in the polls tonight. >> she's the only serious democrat running for preside

i'm talking bernie sanders and elizabeth warren.hout those voices there, what's going to be the clear division? or will there be one? >> i think the clear division tonight is absolutely going to be one of the sort of generational divide. it's going to be joe biden against a lot of candidates who are going to be trying to make the case that they see the future better because biden has been around for longer. we just saw in the last week a new issue that's cropped up. biden basically reversed himself on the 1994 crime bill in a lot of places, including the federal death penalty. two days later president trump came out and said that he was going to reimplement it. three people who are now about to die were sentenced under that 1994 crime bill that joe biden wrote, a fourth under a bill that he supported. so we're going to see some new issues come up for joe biden, i think, that we didn't see in the last debate, and he's going to continue to have to fight this battle of talking about his past while trying to talk about the future, while

you have elizabeth warren. you've seen the latest poll. it was 19% before that last debate and now here we are at 11% for bernie sanders. does he see that as a crucial moment. >> i was reading a poll that has him up at 20% adding five points to the highest gain. i think we're showing momentum. he's been clear he's the only one willing to take on the powerful interest that control our held care system in depriving 34 million people of health care. he's got the only plan to help solve that. >> what would you say to them? does she have a full health care plan or no ? >> in the last debate i believe she said she agreed with bernie sanders on medicare for all. we'll look forward to hear whin what she said tonight. that's great to have an alley in this fight and they can help explain why you have to take on powerful pharma interests if you're going to have any success in truly solving the problem. >> i know you focus in a lot on pharmaceutical pricing. when it comes to warren and sanders because as they were talking about, elizabeth warren was i

as it relates, quickly, to elizabeth warren. think senator warren who obviously has a plan for everything is obviously benefiting from figuring out a way to address some of the more critical needs of key constituencies -- key constituencies, excuse me, within the democratic party, such as african-american women, but i think one thing was missing, and that was african-american men who do vote on average between 80% and 90% with democrats like black women. i also think what she talked about, some of african-american women having access to federal contracts. my question to the senator would be what percentage of african-american women currently bid for those contracts? how do you propose making sure that african-american women are aware that said contracts do exist and learning the process of applying those contracts? i think as we listen to some of her proposals, there are some nuance questioning that i would argue should be asked to get more into those details. >> doug first of all jeb bush was much more well known to the republic
