you advocate for renaming the environmental protection agency to a department of conservation. what's the difference? why? why is that an important thing to do? you know, it's a really important distinction. and historically, in the american environmental movement, there's been two approaches. the one approach associated, i believe, with john muir is the idea protecting the environment and keeping it in a kind of pristine state. and then there's the other idea associated with gifford pinchot, which is the idea of conservation. that is to say, we use the environment and we use our natural resources for, the benefit of human beings. but we take care of the environment as much as possible. the first approach is a kind of ideally utopian approach. and the second approach is a more pragmatic, human centered approach. and i think the second approach is the better approach to environmental policy. i think too much too many of our environmental policies are focused entirely on protection and preservation of this kind of ideal wilderness model that we have in our minds. what that means

reduction fund, which is a program of the inflation reduction act being run by the epa, environmental protection agency. so, as a reminder, i'd like to just quickly summarize the past year to remind us of how we got here in may of 2023. the reinvestment working group completes the plans for a municipal financial corporation and public bank and submits it to the board of supervisors. in july of 2023, the epa publishes the notice of funding opportunities for the greenhouse gas reduction fund, and actually, the epa announced the initial program design in february of 2023. in october 2023, the deadline for newly formed national coalitions to apply for the grf happens. and in november 2023, in coordination with the department of environment, the office of the mayor provided two letters of general support from san francisco, one for each of the relevant competitions of the gr, and supervisor preston introduced a resolution in support of those letters, with the approval of every involved department. lafco and the department of environment sent, those letters to several of the coalitions who applied to the grf
