eric shawn is live at the u.n. eric? >> reporter: hi, dana. the chemical weapons inspectors happen to be stuck in damascus while a dispute has broken out here at the united nations. russia is saying there are security problems over there in the city of dhouma, where that was the site of the alleged attack. spokesman for the secretary-general at the u.n. said that is not the case. they have given proper clearances for the team to go to dhouma. bottom line, they are not there, but a team of media members have been escorted to the site by the syrian government, but the inspectors are not. the security council diplomats are considering a new resolution that would not just deal with the chemical issue, but a political settlement of the civil war. diplomats putting the pressure on russia because of their continued support of bashar al-assad. some wondering if the delays are part of a plan to try and hide any evidence that the syrians have denied. >> we will start later today in good faith, in a good spirit with the 15 members. the goal of this resol

eric shawn joins us live from the united nations in new york city. eric? >> good morning, jon. there's a new warning from russia on the possibility of missile strikes. they have the security council this morning here at the united nations on edge. just the prospect is being criticized by diplomats after yesterday russia vetoed the u.s.-backed resolution that called for an independent investigation of the alleged chemical strike. russia's investigation because russian called to pick the inspectors to investigation that. the russian ambassador said there could be serious consequences if the u.s. and the allies launched an attack. he said there's no evidence of a chemical weapons attack and blamed the u.s. calling it a fabrication and said it shouldn't be used as an excuse for any strikes. >> we could find ourselves on the threshold of some very sad and serious events. i would ask once again to refrain from the plans that you're currently developing for syria. >> u.s. ambassador to the united nations nikki haley slammed russia and al-assad saying if the world does not stand up aga
