>> let's start with the good news, tropical storm erick has dissipated.l eyes are on tropical storm flossie. that looks unlike as it continues do veer off to the north. with that said, it could bring heavy rainfall, rip currents and more good news. the mississippi river which is finally expected to drop below flood stage tomorrow on sunday. this will be the first time in 210 days that it drops below flood stage. keep in mind that crushes the previous record of 135 days set all the way back in 1927. we have more rain on the way for today across portions of texas and oklahoma, even kansas. but you may be asking yourself, what does that have anything to do with the mississippi river, specifically a baton rouge gauge. here's why. over 40% of the contiguous u.s. drains into that lower mississippi river basin. so, anywhere you get rain in this region ends up coming through baton rouge. in the short term, that basically means you're going to get localized flooding. flash flooding. things like that. in the long term what this means is something called dead zones.

right now you have erick and gill behind it. tropical depressions but flossie is still a tropical storm with 45-mile-per-hour sustained winds. now that latest track a tad bit closer to the island, but it is going to weaken into a tropical depression. still, expect it to bring high surf and heavy rainfall. speaking of that rain, threat for showers continue along the southeast all due to that stalled front, that tropical moisture funneling in that rainfall. they can see on average between two to three inches. some isolated spots closer to four inches of rain, watching out for that threat of flash flooding. further out into the atlantic, still looking at that weak tropical wave that will continue to track to the northwest, looking at a low chance of that intensifying but still something we'll have to keep a close eye on as we approach the peak of the season. it could bring heavy rainfall to the caribbean islands over the next few days. that's a look at what's happening across the country. >>> this weather report has been sponsored
