erika, randy? erika: breaking news right now 5:34, on the eye, one person is dead after a crash involving a car and a tractor trailer in plainville. it happened on washington street last night. a 15-year-old passenger in that car was also seriously injured. to belong to the same woman have been found at a national grid site in everett. police haven't identified the woman but do believe her death is suspicious. erika: right now, a lynn man is due in court charged with trying to kidnap and rape a woman in winthrop. police say gerardo portillo tried to get the victim into his car on revere monday night then chased her and attacked her. his 3-year-old daughter was allegedly in the backseat at the black lives matter. at the other, the police union feeling excluded. it's all over a black lives matter banner, hanging at somerville's city hall. two opposing rallies were held last night. the police union says it certainly opposes excessive force but the message the banner sends is demoralizing to officers.

erika: wildfires burning in california. a state of emergency is in effect as firefighters worked to contain the flames. ray: shock and all across the west as plumes of smoke billowing to the california sky. the site of endless today, a sign of progress. >> it looked like we are starting to turn the corner on this. a large burnout operation in the north aspect of the fire. ray: 3000 local enforce firefighters working to contain the stubborn flames. at least 18 homes charred and those allowed to return back home, think of to have something to return to. >> i unlocked every door and gate so that the fire department or anybody that needed to come than 37,000 acres so far. in northern california near big sur, eight hikers lost for six days assisted by firefighters to safety. >> bulldozers putting in fire control lines. ray: growing health concerns for air quality across california as a haze of smoke covers northern california, panic over potential respiratory disease and consequences. >> tar that's going to lead to more wildfire

erika: thank you. a lynn man is accused of attempting to kidnap and rape a woman in but that's not the only disturbing accusation. newscenter 5's sera congi is live in east boston where that man is facing a judge. sera: the alleged attack alone is disturbing enough, but prosecutors say this suspect that his child in the car when all of this went down. gerardo portillo of lynn, is accused of trying to lure a woman into his car monday night in winthrop. prosecutors say when the 25-year-old woman refused, he got out of the car and followed propositioned her for a sex act, grabbed her around the throat, threw her to the ground, and tried to pull her shorts down. portillo also allegedly punched her. the victim's screams scared him off. what is also disturbing, police say, the suspect left his three-year-old daughter in the backseat of his car when he allegedly got out and attacked the woman. so he's also charged with chil this morning, prosecutors also added aggravated assault and battery. he's being held w

very important today, right, erika? >> oh, yes. >> so many people are looking to the radar. >> it's all about that radar right now. you bring up a great point because we're tracking those showers as they're continuing to work their way from west to east. a massive low developed yesterday in kansas. it continues to work towards the east. that's bringing us unsettled weather, unfortunately, for today but really for the second half. day. you can see the clouds pretty thick. for the most part, notice this cloud deck. notice how low they are right now and dark. this is telling you there's lots of moisture and that those rain showers are due here soon enough. southerly winds as well. humidity on the rise. about 95% right now. so, it's feeling really muggy out there. doppler radar picking up on this batch of showers headed our way. here, we start to see unorganized showers. if we look farther west, we can see just how organized all that rain is. we're seeing some imbedded thunderstorms, which is really my concern for later thi

i'm erika tarantal. >> i'm randy price. with us is ed harding. he's just outside philadelphia we want to get to cindy with the rain coming down this morning. >> it's raining. that is a welcome this thing foa lot of us. steadier, light rain generally, kind of moving slowly from west to east across the state right now. you get into the darker greens and the yellows, and we have more moderate rain coming down. some embedded, heavier pockets of rain. around framingham towards boylston, and more to the north, southwest new hampshire, especially, and even parts of the north shore, and back to the low. we're seeing the pockets of where the rain is coming down the area with heaviest rain will shift down into southeastern massachusetts. that's where we have a flash flood watch. there could be some localized flooding here. we're watching an area of low pressure to the south getting better organized. and you can see that there is lightning in the water south of long island. this low is going to track too far south to bring that heavy rain everywhere but it

i'm erika martin. the national weather has issued an alert for the heat hazard it for the entire area through the evening hours. so we have a very hot day in the forecast. temperatures topping out in the low to mid-90s, but more importantly, dew points in the 60s and low 70s. so it's going to feel like it's in the hundreds. so a little extra tlc for pets and elderly. please do not leave your pets in car as. a line of storms just to the northwest of us, so active weather will be the next story later this afternoon into the evening hours. keep in mind we do have clouds developing from the northwest towards the southeast. so we will see some clouds moving through and then breaking right around 11:00 a.m., perhaps lunchtime. and then we'll see them redevelop as some showers start to pick up and some isolated thunderstorms. here it is, hour by hour forecast, starting this at 4:00 a.m., and you can see those clouds starting to move in. not very thick at first. and then a little bit of a break. so keep in min

let->(s get right to meteorologt erika martin for a look at our first alert neighborhood weather on this holiday weekend. >> good morning, george. today is going to be a gorgeous day in the forecast. lots to talk about because we have some weather changes on the approach. so kind of a mixed bag. now, if you look just to the east of our area we can see that frontal boundary continuing to work its way offshore, a little active moving across parts of the carolinas but notice not much going on locally. however, you will notice a kick up of wind speed, northwesterly between 15 and 25 miles an hour, technically considered a breezy day. further out west we do have a high pressure system affecting the four corners. this will pretty much stay put here. we have a high pressure system working across the ohio valley, a low pressure system that will develop across the tennessee valley. this will be one of the weather makers. also a frontal boundary that will continue to stall out at least through tuesday. we do have clouds developing later today into tomorrow with the potential for some showers later

i'm erika martin. very hot day in the forecast, muggy, dewpoints in the 70s. a dangerous day in the forecast. if you look at the bottom of the screen you will see the seven-day outlook. allentown, 90 degrees. upper 80s for philadelphia along with wilmington. dover, 88 for you. again, the dewpoints in the 60s and 70s. atlantic city, 88 degrees. that's your current temperature. topping out in the mid 90s for many. otherwise, right now, our first alert dangerous heat advisory, new jersey, southeastern pennsylvania and northern delaware. so keep that in mind until at least 8:00 p.m., once the sun sets conditions will feel a lot better, although the dewpoints will still be in the 70s. so be mindful of the elderly and pets. heat indices in the hundreds which means it will feel like temperatures in the hundreds. philadelphia has noticed a couple breaks in the cloud. otherwise the clouds are already starting to redevelop ahead of a frontal boundary. so more weather stories include rain showers after 2:00 p.m. ahead of that cold front. i do think it's actually going to
