"outfront" tonight we begin with the winter weather travel torrential rain, snow, tornado warnings. killer storm making its way east tonight wreaking havoc for millions of americans trying to get home for the ultimate family holiday of the year. southeast being pounded with heavy rain, snow and sleet are starting to disrupt travel in the north. as you can see. more than 40 million people are going to be traveling. 3 million of them by air. and a few airlines are planning for the worst tonight. delta and u.s. airways already saying they'll offer refunds for canceled flights and waiving some fees for destinations up and down the east coast where some of the most horrific delays are anticipated. we've got the storm and travel details covered from all angles. i want to begin with our meteorologist chad myers who's in the severe weather center tonight here at cnn. so chad, obviously you've been watching this storm when it came from the west in oklahoma. now it's in the east and in the sout

i'm erin burnett. just in the president again defending his signature health care law in texas, the heart of republican country for now. his message, though, is starting to sound pretty familiar. and it wasn't the only time he was on the defensive today. he's now answering to critics and members of his own party. i want to get to jim acosta at the white house right away. jim, he's talking in dallas moments ago. i'm the first to say i haven't been happy. he's trying to defend himself. and trying to talk about the whole pledge he made right you get to keep your plan, like your plan you get to keep it. >> right. >> but he is on the defense. >> reporter: absolutely, erin. i think you heard that earlier this week when he was talking to his post-campaign team of volunteers. and you heard it tonight. he was down in dallas talking to a group of navigators, those are the people who have been hired by the administration, very important people, i might add, to help people enroll for insurance through obama care.

i'm erin burnett.e begin with the breaking news, a deadly storm threatening to derail holiday plans for millions of americans as the nation begins the busiest travel week of the year. at least 12 people killed after a wintry mix of snow and sleet blanketed texas and oklahoma. more than 400 flights canceled today. some of the worst weather still to come over the next two days. and that is going to blanket almost all of the country. nearly 43 million americans will be hitting the skies and roads. this was shot by a storm chaser in oklahoma. watch that suv there for a second. that was in front of him. the car just skidding in front of him. i want to make sure you know no one was hurt in that car. but this is a sense of how bad things are. at least 15 more states will be affected by the storm. it's going to move up the east coast. we'll have more on the storm's path in a couple moments. the next 72 hours are going to be so crucial. first we begin in texas where people have already been killed. >> reporter:
