this was a collaboration the library did with major league baseball, espn, and the baseball hall of fame in cooperstown. we have some incredibly -- some incredible things on display. let's start with some of the earliest. right now we are standing in the front of the exhibit, looking at origins and early days, where we have some interesting artifacts that suggest baseball has a history that is much longer than the 19th century. in fact we have an example from a medieval manuscript, these are miniature figures that were part of a border of a book produced in 13 44. monk and a non-with a , al and about, -- a bat couple of monks and nuns in what would be a primitive outfield. they would be played for centuries before europeans call different kinds of games baseball. our next stop here is this cute book. i adore it. it is one of my favorite items in our collection. it's a pocketbook from 1787. it includes a woodcut drawing of children playing baseball. the word baseball is printed there and there is a poem suggesting a boy runs home with joy. the lexicon is showing up in the late 18th centur
