evan perez joins me now on this report. evan? >> this is something from interpol which told the a.p. yesterday that they have seen signs of people, jihadists, who wanted to join the fight with isis in syria trying to evade some of the security checks that have been built up in the last few months to try to stop the flow of fighters. instead of going through by air through the airport at istanbul, they take ferry ships from neighboring countries to try to get to turkey and then to syria from the northern syria border. this is obviously a very big concern for american officials. obviously they spent a lot of time trying to stop the flow by air and if they are trying to find ways around that, that's a very big problem. obviously there's also a second problem. a lot of these passenger ferries are carrying american tourists and you never know when these guys might turn their attention from just using this for transportation and perhaps carrying out attacks against westerners and against western tourists on those same ships. >> hang on

joining us now to talk about it, former democratic senator and fox news contributor, evan bayh.senator, you've been in opposition in the senator. you have words going around like war, poison the well, playing with matches. once you've gotten these two sides on the brink here and have so boxed themselves in with words, is there any going back or are we going to have a fight? >> it certainly makes it a lot harder. when sides get entrenched like this but you can ordinarily count on both sides to do what they think is in their best interest. i think on this particular issue it is unlikely we'll get a substantive compromise. trt bases of the two parties are too far apart so the president will go forward and the republicans will be inflamed. but if the republicans shut down the government, that's not in their best interest. they have to find a way to respond to the president without lamping themselves. >> he's lame duck. he doesn't have to run for re-election anymore. what's in his best interest other than exactly what he wants to do? >> well, that's just it. the president's looking f
