i'm kelly evans at the new york stock exchange. >> i was about to say have a seat, get comfortable, this could be a couple interesting hours coming up here breaking news. the president will be speaking at the white house tany minute now after meeting with senate republicans on tax reform. and the news of the north korean missile launch there the last hour or so let's get to eamon javers at the white house to sort this out for us eamon? >> reporter: we're expecting to hear from the president in the roosevelt room at the white house. we don't know what topic he's going to be speaking on. this is a moment where they're allowing the press pool to come in to a previously scheduled meeting. that meeting was going to be with democratic and republican congressional leaders, but after the president tweeted about the democratic leaders earlier this morning and said he saw no hope for a deal with them, the democrats backed out of this meeting. the republicans are still tae attending. the white house says the invitation is still open for the democrats to come to the meeting. you can expect we'll see

evan, what can you tell us? >> reporter: we're learning tonight within last few hours, brand new that the pentagon confirmed the suspected gunman devon patrick kelly once in the air force, according to public safety officials, kelly walked into the first baptist church in sutherand springs east of san antonio and used an assault rifle to shoot them gathered for a morning service. they ranged in age from five to 72. officials found 23 people dead inside the church. two were found outside and one person was taken to the hospital and later died if their injuries. 20 more were injured. the gunman by officials any 26-year-old devon patrick kelly. authorities say the violence started when kelly walked over to the church in all black and tack kel vest from a nearby gas station and started firing. >> he was dressed in all black. the suspect crossed the street to the church. exited his vehicle and began firing at the church. moved to the right side of the church and continued to fire. that suspect entered the church and continued to fire. >> the state we're dealing with the largest mass shooting in the state's history. so many families who have lost family

evan lambert has more on what went wrong. >> reporter: the conviction from 2012 in a military court should have been sent to the fbi to be included in the national background check database. kellytedly beat his wife and stepson but the air force said despite the pentagon rules requiring it. the information was never shareded with the fbi. as a result, academy sports and outdoors confirms the suspected shooter bought two guns from them in 2016 and 2017. he passed the required background checks we're also learnings the suspect's mother-in-law attended the church where he's accused of opening fire and also reported of having send her threatening messages. >>> marina marraco live outside the white house with details, marina >> apparently the threats were made on facebook, the dallas man posting saying to kill all police right here at the white house, and is actually a montgomery county police that issued what is known as a bolo, be on look-out for michael are a ago, he was staying at the days inin silver spring. they decided to put out the bolo. at roughly 4:00 at lafayette park, secret service spotted him made the arrest and he's facing charges for making felony threats. of course

kelly kron4 news (steve) in the south bay... a mountain view high teacher was arrested this morning for inappropriate conduct with a minor. evanmith was taken into custody after police learned he was sending inappropriate text messages to a student. authorities started investigation the teacher when school officials notified them about his communications with the student. smith was arrested on one count of sending harmful matter to a minor. he will remain paid administrative leave during the investigation. smith has been a math teacher at the high school for 15 years. a live look outside right now...
