travel agent website expedia sky-rocked 25%. volume jumped eight fold after turning in better than expected earnings and revenue. that optimism helped expedia's travel research spin-off trip- advisor. its stock jumped more than 7%. it was spun out of expedia in december and is up 50% since. and amazon. after the big first quarter profits, shares shot up almost 16%. volume popped five fold. tonight the stock is at its highest price since october. but other consumer-focused stocks didn't fare so well. procter and gamble products may span former laundry soap to batteries, but it expects demand for its products to drop in developed economies. p&g earned one cent more than estimates in its latest quarter, but weaker prices and weaker demand in key markets caused the company to cut its financial forecast. the company also cited price controls in venezuela for cutting into its profits. the warning hit p&g shares, falling more than 3.5%. it was the biggest percentage loser among dow industrial stocks. tonight's low matches its low price

another stock surging today on earnings news, expedia, check out the shares. the company posting strong results on the back of the strong gains from hotel room bookings. another indicator for the economy that much more on these two movers in just a minute because this is really what is driving this market today. we've got less an hour to go. some of the key market themes that i've been watching, a roll on track offsetting that mixed bag that scott told us about earlier and they have reported earnings and 80% have topped expectations. very much an earnings-driven market since the beginning of the first quarter season. strong earnings helping investors overcome lackluster economic data. today's government report showing gdp. that was a disa.ment. up 2.2, just below what analysts were expecting. indicating you should be seeing stronger growth at this point in the recovery than we actually are. s&p and the knanasdaq on track. rates moving higher. unemployment in spain soaring to 24.4%. that doesn't even indicate the youth story. and s&p cutting the credit rating b

expedia higher in after-hours trade.d earnings reported there of 26 cents a share. 15% increase in gross bookings and also a 12% increase in revenue. stock up more than five -- or a little less than $5 in the after-hours session. metlife reporting operating earnings of $1.2 billion. coming in 8 cents ahead of expectation. stock little change, 3 cents higher. and then maxim on an adjusted basis, 33 cents a share there. the stock raised its forecast for the coming quarters. 2.9%. this is a maker of systems for the health care industry. coming in with earnings for the quarter of 54 cents a share on an adjusted basis. we want to bring you a maker of boots. the warm weather hurt it. slashed its full-year outlook and it's keeping pressure on the stock. maria, back to you. >> all right. you just mentioned decker. brian shactman is looking at decker's right now because it's a big move and he's going to give us more. what do you know about decker's? >> yeah. 18% in after hours is gigantic, maria. thank you very much. that guidanc

an impact in the market and results of expedia giving a huge boost to priceline. shares of priceline up 4%. is this rally going to hold, especially with the earnings coming up? there is a warning sign and let's call to the charts and find out what it is. carter, what do you see? >> a couple of charts. i think there is a tell here in the action. let's look at them. this is priceline. it shows the well-defined tops and a level, a level from which it broke out. the break out is already occurred. after this powerful move for the first time we broke trend and we were able to get back above it, but often that's the beginning of the signs of trouble. when you start to falter like that. i want to show you a second chart among several. this will put this in context. this is apple. identical. same exact period and same break out. breaking trend. apple also surges weak, but did not get back above trend. both show signs of wear and tear. put them together with the next chart. apple and priceline together. you are talking about a 95% correlation. each broke out and is beautifu

why was the market so badly positioned for what expedia had to say?ly priceline was the favorite going into earnings. >> a couple of things. their results clearly answered a lot of the doubts in the marketplace. they showed topline growth and market expansion. they were in the market buying back stack, all things the market wasn't expecting there. the reality is there are really legitimately two companies competing here, not just priceline. expedia is a global leader and have proven things can turn around. >> you both have virtually the same price target. for you, jake, it's a neutral. >> that's been one of our top picks for several months. >> talk me through -- is that your favorite stock or would price lin -- price lin, the price performance on priceline is still phenomenal for the year. would that be your top pick? >> both companies are very well-positioned. in the short term, i'd focus on exped expedia, trades at 12 times earnings. it's turning business around, showing topline growth. they are still the leader in online travel. >> mark, priceline

let's also stick with travel and check on expedia shares.are up sharply in the after-hours session. strong earnings report, rate of growth and booking and hotel revenue all accelerated from the fourth quarter, up 17.6% in the after-hours session. >> wow, that's crazy. >> anybody trading this name? >> i wish i was. >> this stuff's happening all over the place, post-apple. >> right. >> 5%, 10%, like 15% to 20%, how do you like that? got a hedge fund community under a tremendous amount of performance pressure, and that's what you're seeing in the stocks. if it ticks and has high short interest that's what you get. >> expedia, 60% of the shares are outstanding. >> not a stock on valuation which makes it different from some people going after it out there. nine times earnings you're not buying an expensive stock. >> one knock on the quarter, their global airline bok bookings were down. they are able to sell more tickets, but they still were down revenue per ticket. >> coming up next. we've got today's trade for one of the biggest earnings reports

nasdaq had its best week since february led by strong earnings from apple, amazon and expedia. s&p 500 was up by 3 points. coming into the first quarter reporting period, expectations were pretty darn low. companies were expected to deliver essentially zero profit growth but wall street has been happily surprised so far. our partners the a "u.s.a. today" report more than half the companies in the s&p 500 have reported results and delivered about 7% profit growth. it is the tenth quarter in a row of profit increases. >>> meantime ford has unveiled its redesigned escape, crossover compact in san francisco. reviewers are saying it's looking more like a car nowadays. it comes with improved fuel efficiency and the price $200 less than the basic sticker on the previous model. these are going to start showing up in dealerships this spring. what's really interesting -- the thing about the fuel economy that i find fascinating, they got rid of the hybrid in this line because this one, the regular old ford escape that they just improved gets better gas mileage on the highway than the hybr

as for the nasdaq 100, the winners there are expedia up by 25%. look at it go.m on the back of its latest earnings up by just over 15. as for what's happening with oil prices, well, kind of bouncing around right now on either side of the flat line today. pairing early morning losses after the gdp numbers were released worse than expected. the final trades of the week happening right now. sharon epperson is at the nymex. hey, sharon. >> hey, mandy. oil prices definitely gaining momentum going into the close today. overnight oil was below $104 a barrel. and as traders then got the gdp data this morning, they were deciphering a miss on the headline number, but the fact remains that was largely due to government spending, not transportation spending, other types of spending and personal consumption was actually pretty strong. so we did see prices pick up a bit. we are still though in this 100 to $105 range. we're looking at gains in the gasoline market. that's something to watch into the weekend. natural gas has really seen a pop this week. and the june contract up
