by thanking the community of the city college of san francisco, beginning with the students, the faculty, and all of the san franciscans who benefit from this amazing institution. for almost 80 years the college has been an institution that in many respects represents, embodies what san francisco is about. for the past 78 years, city college of san francisco has been crucial to the economic and social development of san francisco and has been widely acknowledged not only to be a san francisco institution, but to be one of the best community colleges not just in the state, but in the country. city college, in my view -- and i say this as someone who is an immigrant who came to this country in search of the american dream -- city college is making it possible for the american dream to remain alive for thousands and thousands of san franciscans. and it is for that reason that we are here today. today's special meeting of the neighborhood services and safety committee is devoted to the very important issue of bringing our community voice back to city college. we will vote on a resolution tha

in the fall, a group of faculty, many of us tried to enroll in classes out of one particular meeting, 20 people tried to enroll, probably five faculty members were successful in signing up for a class. there is something wrong with that. i want to also tell you, and i think many of you don't know this, but i realize that students who owe money are not allowed to withdraw from the class. they're blocked from withdrawing from the class. one person said, that's extortion. and i think they've got a good point. the truth is they can go down to admissions and records, but nobody tells them that on the -- on their banner registration screen. we have to be open and transparent. i've been bullied and threatened by this administration, but what is far, far more worse is what happened yesterday. it is unexcusable. i served in this role two years and had the meerction ~ pleasure of working with students, faculty and staff.
