and then here and felton. across not far away in san pro's a reverse short of flood stage runoff continues to pour in from side streams in the ones like this year scotts valley are losing their grip and saturated ground. many residents are once again using sandbags to divert water with from their homes. >> reporter: will see little break. over the ocean waters causing big test wells. residents of the one hundred block of cayuga avenue were trying to salvage what they could after their street flooded from a backed up sewer line. one resident took these images of water that innundated the. street. it's four eighteen in the morning. the man holes just popped. at four in the morning we heard the gurgling from the toilet. this time we were able to move our car before it floated away. we got it out of the driveway just before the whole street became an ocean of water. i thought it would be okay because the firefighters came and unclogged everything but i guess it was too late the damage was already done. raoul cobar

i'm standing by the historic landmark, the covered bridge here in felton. beneath me the swollen san lorenzo river. now, we've got a break in the weather, but we've had occasional rain all day here in the mountains. photographer clyde powell and i, we drove around the mountains all day today and we saw a lot of road closures of course covered by the storms as well as a lot of anxious residents. in felton on highway 9, crews worked on removing trees which had toppled blocking the roadway. clearing the massive slide on highway 17 took priority then. today, the tired crews shifted their attention here. scattered along bear creek road in the santa cruz mountains were smaller slides and toppled trees. near boulder creek, the two-lane road was blocked, a culvert collapsed sunday night, sending part of one lane crashing down the mountain. steve richmond has lived up here with his horses for 42 years. across the street, henry cowell state park where the water was fast and furious. richmond never takes the river for granted. >> you can say, oh, it's not a problem. b

matt kel ser live in felton. >> reporter: it is really just drizzling right now but it was really wet overnight. and the biggest concern of course is flooding. overnight we had so much water heading into the san lorenzo river worrying everybody about flooding. >> the river was roaring this morning. homes in santa cruz had a too close for comfort view for currents. at one spot big trees went over the flood stage. we found two felton residents that don't mind the mud but people living next to the bridge know to be ready. >> can't patrol anything when they come around and telling us it is rising, we have to take our vehicles from down there and put them across at the street at safeway so cars don't get blooded out. >> highway 9 was blocked off because of slides like this and chp reported several trees down in the mountains blocking roads and making life tough for commuters. >> i guess i don't take highway 9 because of that, because so often there is a tree down or a slide. and mostly i just listen to the news early and hear if there is any closures and then just go and see what happens.

here in felton grove, just south of the covered bridge, the flashy san lorenzo river stopped just short of flood stage as residents are keeping their fingers crossed. sot karen durham/lives next to river on the border between santa cruz and scotts valley, a 100-foot tall fir tree came down, grazing a home here on carbonera drive, but smashing a ick up in the driveway. no one was hurt. owner david potts, who had play lumber jack to get out, suspects the tree was weaken by the drought. sot david potts/home and truck damaged by tree once again, mountain roads like granite creek in scotts valley are swamped amid dozens of new rock and mud slides. the water is undermining culverts and driveways. and here in paradise park, also along the san lorenzo river, a few low lying garages are under water, but the river stopped just short of causing serious damage and the worst is over, at least for now. standup closer and many people across the bay area are still recovering from the flooding caused by recent storms. kron four's jeff pierce shows us a street in san francisco that's now facing sewer iss

rick boone in felton grove, fears of flooding have people scrambling to protect their homes. rob begins our coverage. >> right now seeing steady rain over the last couple hours coming through the bay area and really the big story of the storm is how sustained. looking at potential for heavy rain at times over the next 36 hours. right now, wet roadways in san jose and a little rinse cycle across san francisco, golden gate bridge, winds picking up, too. the other part of the story today. you can see here on this radar loop from our storm ranger mobile doppler radar, right there atop the mountain, heaviest rain, actually areas of yellow and orange showing up along the coastal hilltops. santa cruz mountains especially, seeing all of that tropical moisture in from hawaii across the bay area. flash flood watches in effect from now until sunday. hilltops with gusts about 50 miles per hour. high today, upper 50s, low 60s. a more mild air mass coming in which will hold extra moisture, which could power's rainfall rates of a half inch or greater per hour. some of the santa cruz mountai

and then moving closer to scots valley and felton, a flood warning in place right now. we'll bring up the information here. until 6:45 this morning. so that red area, a rapped rise on the river happening right now. that's a flash flood watch for all of these areas covered in green. here up in the north pay, moderate downpours still up in portions of the north bay. moderate to heavy for san francisco and oakland, and the south bay not as much coverage. outside right now, here is our live camera, looking out toward oakland. the flags moving around quite a bit, as well, looking out toward jack london square. the peak winds have expired, but still a bit of a breeze out there. by later in the morning, by 8:00, and into the afternoon hours, we can't guarantee a dry forecast, but still some more breaks in the action. still some occasional rain showers, but the rainfall should back off in intensity and coverage throughout the day on wednesday, but then a much stronger storm expected as we head toward the weekend. wool talk more about that in he a few minutes. alex is standing b

santa cruz mountains, there's a warning here with flooding expected right along the river there from felton and it will continue to trickle down into santa cruz. this goes until 10:30 this morning. if you don't have to go out, it's good to be indoors. inaddition to the wind blowing out there, the rain continues to fall, but it is pushing out. this is a three hour time lapse and you can see how it's shifting this direction. so in the next hour or so it will move out of the south bay and we will continue with just scattered showers the rest of today. there's where it is widespread from santa cruz into san jose. if we shift to the peninsula, we have a few sprinkles here reported, after 10:00 maybe right around the los altos hills. shifting east we've got steadily light rain alongside 80 continuing east towards tracy. antioch reporting light rain and over the north bay we've got advisories for napa and sonoma county. we've got a few sprinkles reported here as well. when i come back, i'll have a timeline on the rain today, a look at your numbers and we'll continue to track any possibility of flo

but on close her inspection, this is actually a flash flood warning closer to felton. the river has been rising rapidly. so this is in place until 6:45. and it's hard to ignore that the rainfall total, ben lomand over 6 inches of rain over the past 24 hours, so significant rainfall there, and up to the north bay area, this flash flood warning in place until 7:45 this morning. the creek there has been running high, and as a rut, they have that flash flood warning. thankfully, the rainfall rates have been tapering off a little bit. here is the coverage out there. and those yellows and some greens, at least backing off a little bit. there you can see some of the coverage up in the north bay. we'll push the maps closer to the east bay, and stillle some coverage out towards tracy and discovery pay, and then some more development here closer to the peninsula, closer to san francisco, and then into south bay, not as much coverage, but still some scattered rain. the bulk of the rainfall is happening right now into this morning. 8:00 and then some more breaks in the action. sti

started to drain and pool overnight causing minor flooding like here at plateau and valley drives in felton. leanne thought she could cross it but it was deeper than it looked. about half a foot in some spots. >> are you used to this kind of weather here? >> well, it has been missing for about five years. nice to have it back. >> yeah. >> reporter: in the word of one public works employee, they were busting today. this was the scene when multiple mud slides cut off access overnight and much of the day. the same happened on rodeo gulch road. with mud and debris blocking half the roadway. a 45-foot tall douglas fir came crashing down on high voltage power lines. pg&e crews will be working well into the night. and we spoke with the head of the department of public works here in santa cruz county. he tells us that typically, they need like a week and some sunshine to dry out from storms but they will only get two days so if we get that half foot of rain this weekend, he says to expect more mud slides, wash out roads. kiet do, kpix5. >>> there is so much snow in the sierra, a portion of roads cl

filling up and that's good news but in the santa cruz mountains we had the san lorenzo overflowed near felton so while we knew this was going to be a dare situation with this particular storm, everything started coming together yesterday around lunch hour where we started looking ahead towards the weekend and realizing it's going to be a serious situation here in the bay area with heavy rain perhaps up to 7" in many of our location and in san francisco. we're talking about up to 6 inches of rain. but that's the frontal boundary all that yellow and red that you're taking a look at slicing out of the north bay. you see the east bay still getting hammered around walnut creek, concord, clayton and walnut creek, san ramon valley into the tri-valley. san jose just some light rainfall there. you're being shielded by the santa cruz mountains. meanwhile, the peninsula plenty of rainfall and right there in san francisco, you see the rain drifting into daly city as far as pretty moderate to heavy rain. we have some pounding rain right now in santa cruz back through scotts valley and here's the deal. tak
