a big fire started about a two alarm fire. it broke out just after 1:00 this afternoon. now firefighters at first had a hard time getting to the second and third story floors of this building. it's a three story building that thick black smoke filled the air. we're told there was a lot of plastic in the building and that black smoke very toxic. people had to cover up their face out here. it was really nasty for a long time. now, we have learned the name of the store was big house incorporated. they sold backpacks, innovateties -- and novelties and so forth. officials said they have had complaints in the past. >> we've had complaints. they've said hey, this place looks unsafe. you can't get through the aisle. so we came out and directed them to widen an aisle way. they complied and they were not sited. not sited either time. so i got new information from my fire marshal. in 2013 2013 we got a similar call saying it seems unsafe. it seems really crowded. so they went out and deemed it reasonably unsafe. so they were not sited. >

this fire broke out around 2:30. it is 6:00 a.m. 3 1/2 hours that fire crews have been working on getting this fire completely out. it is under control. it went under control around 4:00 p.m. aplet's let's go to sky force 10. as i give you the details, this fire broke out around 2:30 this morning inside a vacant building on the corner of 24th and american street. it spread to an adjacent warehouse, which is a paper company. and if we go to our video now, you can see from our video how that paper inside the burning building helped to fuel the fire. the flames were so intense, they were several stories high when we pulled up the the scene. the firefighting effort had to be done from the outside of the building only. no firefighter could ever go inside the building. it was just too dangerous. the blaze quickly went to four alarms at the height of it. 125 firefighters from around the city were here on the scene pouring water on to this blaze. 33 pieces of equipment and trucks were used. many of them still being used out

the dog bar fire in nevada county, the black fire near the lake and the massive king fire burning between lake tahoe and sacramento. team of specialized firefighters have now left the black fire in the county to help out with the king fire burning near pohlic pines. that fire has forced firefighters to partially close highway 50, that's the primary route into south lake tahoe. crews are worried embers will jump the highway and threaten more homes. its burned nearly 13,000 acres and only 5% contained at this hour. >>> if you're confused, we don't blame you. now to the latest reversal concerning a huge impact player in the nfl, star running back, adrian peterson. arguably the best in the nfl who is now facing child abuse charges. has been banned from even coming to the team's facilities. it's to battle the north end of the king fire as crews head out for another day on the fire lines of a fire that's grown to more than 8 -- more thanle 7 -- more than 87,000 acres. crews set up this camp closer to where they need to go to work but also to spread the crews out. they've divided the crews and sent many to the north where the bulk of the work is left to do go it's very difficult to move around in the morning team when everyone is gearing up for the day shift. with over 5,000 personnel assigned to the fire, we needed to split it into two zones. >> reporter: fire crews got relief in the way of weather with light rain that fell across the area. more importantly is raised the humidity level making the fire activity much less. that allowed fire crews to go directly on the lines. we caught up with a crew from roseville who has been constructing the fire line. >> now that the humidity is up, it's slowing down a little bit. it's brought the moisture content of the fuel up. fire is not burning as hot as it was. but it's still out there. it's still burning. >> reporter: back in fir

the fire department has neither. the ballot will improve or move on and improve public safety for everyone in san francisco. colleagues, i have one other item and in memoriam. this is in memoriam for lawrence edward shelton senior, he was born in alabama october 1941. he was raised and educated in alabama until age of 13. lawrence moved to west virginia to live with his father. a coal miner. he moved to west virginia where he became close to his future wife annette williams. lawrence and annette became high school sweet hearts and began an adjourn journey that will last 67 years. in columbus i ohio she became a member of the local afcio and then lawrence and his family moved to san francisco where he continued his work with labor groups. lawrence is remembered by all for his smile, his love of conversation and his commitment to seeing the good of all people above all. he was a free spirit and a great soul. lawrence is is survived by his wife dr. annette shelton who is here today and one of his daughters is here today
