that's something to keep in mind from northern florida to southeast georgia. the reason the storm is going to dutch rain across this area isn't just because of tropical moisture but because it's going to start to take a very turn towards the north and the northeast here over the next 24-48 hours. we're going to see a prolonged period of time that we're going to be seeing a lot of heavy rain out there. jon mentioned up to 8 inches of rain, the general idea here is between 4-8 inches of rain, locally, up to a foot of it across parts of northern florida and southeastern georgia and by w*d we expect the storm system to sustain winds of 30-35 miles per hour. now, the rain is welcomed news here in florida, georgia, south carolina, because we're currently in a drought and that maroon color is the worst type of drought or extreme of it. so a drought across portions of florida, georgia and parts of south carolina. again, we'll take the rain, but when you get too much water, too fast, then you have flash flooding concerns, and that is something we're keeping an eye on r

meteorologists expect the weather system will keep dumping rain in florida and georgia throughout the day tens of thousands are without power from georgia to daytona beach in jacksonville, the memorial day plans scrapped. >> due to concerns for public safety we've cancelled our memorial ceremony at the memorial wall. this storm has the ability to produce localized flooding, down trees and down power lines that can pose a threat to public safety. >> reporter: residents along beryl's path from south of charleston to daytona beach were expected to see a storm search of up to three feet, three to six inches of rain wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour. >> waves and winds are picking up, tides coming. >> reporter: there's the issue of rip currents, currents that pull perpendicular to the shore forcing swimmers to swim outside their powerful force. they are causing a mess forcing at least 100 rescues along the coast and emptying out beaches over the busy holiday weekend. >> i'm encouraging everyone to stay out of water, very important. >> reporter: one bit of good news meteorologists think up

the storm is expected to come ashore late sunday or early monday and hit parts of florida, georgia and carolina. forecasters say beryl could drop up to 8 inches of rain in some areas. officials in jacksonville, florida canceled memorial day events because of the dangerous conditions. >> this storm has the potential to produce localized flooding, downed trees and power lines that be impact the -- that can impact the public safety. >> reporter: rebill starting ruining -- beryl started ruining plans sunday. lifeguards moved people away from the shore on tie bee island in georgia. the rough conditions kept most people out of the water in flagler beach, florida. >> we didn't get a chance to stuff it up but that's all right. little rough. not going to put her on the board today. >> reporter: these surfers in daytona beach came back to shore saying the waves were too dangerous. >> when those waves are just crushing you, it's tough to get out. that's when i know i'm like nope, time to go back in. >> reporter: forecasters say beryl is expected to move up the southeastern coast mondaylying some

tropical storm beryl has made landfall in florida and georgia and man has the trpicalopical st orms moved... take a look at the cool air out west... it is a windy day with winds over 30 miles per hour. lake michigan is 20 degrees warmer than average. these areas in yellow are ayt risk for severe storms. the storms will be in this area by 6 pm tonight and we will continue to watch the radar. temps are in the upper 80's low 90's accrosross the area today. 94 degrees will be the predicted high temperature for today and last year it was only 58 degrees. temperatures will again be in the '90s and then to more temperatures will drop to the mid-80s tomorrow as this system moves into the area. florida has been incredibly dry so the trpical strom will help them out with the rain. we will have heavy rain tonight we are running below normal in many areas for rain fall. this is a look at tomorrow thursday and friday. we will have high temperatures again by next week it looks like we are receiving our heat in surges this year. this afternoon we will have patchy clouds and temperatures reaching 94 degr
