we have fox team coverage, phil keating is in key largo, florida. we're going to start with meteorologist adam klotz tracking the twin storms. adam. >> hey, arthel. yeah, a very unique system is what we're looking at right now. marco is a little closer, nearly a hurricane right now, winds at 70 miles an hour, spinning in the gulf of mexico. likely making landfall by tomorrow afternoon so this has sped up from some of the original forecasts. there's the track running up along the louisiana coast. what you're going to see is ultimately both of these storms are at least potentially going to be making landfall in a similar location. that could be a big problem. jumping to tropical storm laura, spinning over haiti. this one going to take a little longer but ultimately running to a similar location. so once it runs over some of the tropical islands it gets into the gulf of mexico, able to heat up and warm up very quickly and suddenly you see a path that is running up along the gulf coast so louisiana, possibly getting up to a category 2 storm. this is the

at how this is going to progress off toward the northwest possibly making landfall around the florida keysmaybe south of that or north of that as well. and then it's right around the alabama/florida border with a category 1 on wednesday morning. but watch this when you compare it to that other storm out there. that's going to become tropical storm marco later today or some time tomorrow. it also becomes a category 1. it makes a landfall. the exact same time. wednesday morning perhaps. maybe a little bit later. but it's somewhere between the texas and louisiana border. also with 75-mile-per-hour winds. now the water in the gulf of mexico right now is so warm, it's averaging between 85 and 90 degrees. the key temperature that we look for in order to cook a hurricane, make them bigger and bigger is 81 degrees. it's 85 to 90 degrees. this could certainly get stronger and as a matter of fact, i always show you spaghetti models where we think this is going. there's also spaghetti models for how strong it's going to get. and some of the models take it up to a category 4. some keep it down in the

areas of the bahamas and northern cuba before potentially crossing over areas like miami or the florida keysthe day monday. now we switch gears to tropical depression 14. this is the one that's going to go over the yucatan peninsula over the weekend before finally making it out over open water in the gulf. at that point, that's when we anticipate this one specifically to start to intensify, perhaps into a category 1 hurricane. but again, if you were listening to me when i was talking about the timing, notice that these two are really going to enter the gulf at just about the same time. the question then becomes, where do they go from there? it is entirely possible that you could have one of them may feel a landfall around somewhere in florida, late on the day monday, while also keeping an eye on the separate system headed towards texas or louisiana on tuesday. then the original storm, perhaps making a second landfall somewhere else in the gulf, again on wednesday. so again, there's a lot of factors here at play here, but again, this could be one of those where we have to watch things monday,

florida? can he win out it? >> it will be difficult. 96 years this is the key number. only twice in the 96 years has the winner of the election not won florida. 1960 and 1992. in fact, for a republican, no republican since coolage in 1924 has won without winning florida. there are universes in which he can win without florida, they are very minute. >> what happened in 92 that would happen this time for it to vote against trump and yet he wins? >> look, obviously if trump were able to maintain that base in the midwest and the great lake states. if he won pennsylvania and michigan. and wisconsin. in that case if everything else stayed the same from the 2016 map, he could lose florida and win. that's the universe in which it happens. it's not a real probable universe. the president actually polling poorer in the upper midwest in the great lake battleground states. >> another aspect is that mail in requests are somewhat indicative. what we're seeing is florida democrats are jumping out to a huge advantage in mail ballot requests. he was bashing the idea of voting this way.

speaking of one of the swing states, to florida, a key voting block for president trump's victory in 2016 were seniors, one county where the president notched a big win with the demographic was pacifsco county where he beat out hillary clinton by 21 points. with the coronavirus putting seniors at risk, can the president hold on to some of the voters. joining me now is nbc news' dasha burns from new port richey in florida. what are you hearing from the senior voters you've been speaking to there? >> reporter: it is turns out if you want to get seniors on a sweltering hot day in florida to talk to you about politics, you meet them at the pool, which is what we did after they did some water aerobics and swam a couple of laps. this is an area with a large population of voters over the age of 65, largely what helped trump with that large victory here. he beat mitt romney's margins near 2012 by three times. the question i came here with is does that enthusiasm hold, especially after this state and this demographic in particular has been hit so hard by the pandemic. the resounding answer is
