with regard to michael flynn, we learned again that a properly predicated counterintelligence concernh plenty of warnings given to the white house was carried out in the interest of national security. this was a failure today for senate republicans and a win for anyone who cares about the intelligence community getting it right. >> on that topic, joyce, on the intelligence community getting it right. here again is sally yates trying to explain why it was a threat to u.s. national security that even before mike flynn committed the crime of lying to the fbi he was lying to white house officials like the current vice president and the press secretary. here is sally yates with senator leahy. let's watch and talk about it on the other side. >> do you believe by encouraging russia to not react to u.s. sanctions would undercut our nation's response to russia's attack on our elections? >> i do. that's one of the concerns, senator. as i mentioned, the purpose of the sanctions was to both punish and deter and when general flynn was essentially saying, never mind on those sanctions, we're just g

general flynn was interviewed on january 24th by the f.b.i. permission against her counsel. she recommended that the department of justice notify the current administration about the concerns they had with general flynn. that the right thing to do would be to call the trump administration and tell them about the concerns they had about general flynn. the f.b.i. went down a different path. the f.b.i. called flynn and suggested to him that you don't need a lawyer. we just want to talk to you. we want to get it over quickly. do you mind meeting with us? and when flynn said i would like my lawyer they say no, if you do that we have to go way up to the chain and it will slow things down. what did flynn tell mccabe? you have the transcript and you know what i said. there was a violation of the logan act, you had the transcript, why did you need to talk to him? they were going to manufacture a crime, not try to figure out what he did. that's my view. we'll see if over time that matters. i'll end on this. it followed ms. yates' advice and going to the

and a bad day for michael flynn. it's ironic that president trump is saying he's going the keep us safe. he couldn't even keep michael flynn safe, and for good reason. flynn was asking to do something extraordinary here. he was asking to interrupt an ongoing criminal proceeding in which he pled guilty. so when you hear barr said the evidence didn't add up or something. flynn himself pled guilty, said i did it. he was the national security adviser. he was represented by all sorts of counsel. that's why the justice department, which i used to work with, always opposes these kinds of motions to interrupt criminal proceedings. otherwise, every criminal defendant will do that. what president trump has done is make the justice department bend to his will and side with people who admitted criminals, just as kind of the republicans in the senate are now siding with russia. this is all about russia. the lies flynn made were about his dealings with russia. >> it's incredible to me that this has taken place, because one feels a

flynn's attorney, sidney powell, told the court today, quote: general flynn is a defendant without asecutor. only the department of justice can decide the public interest and more idea factors -- myriad factors inherent in pursuing a prosecution. there are no circumstances now under which judge sullivan can continue on this case because his bias demands disqualification. joining us now siny powell -- sidney powell, attorney for general michael flynn and a former federal prosecutor, best selling author. sid, it's great to see you. >> thanks, lou. lou: i just, just looking over some of the statements from the d.c. appellate court judges. you are up against, you're outnumbered, without question, and they're not even trying to disguise their political bias from the bench, are they? >> there was certainly a lot of questions, lou. i will have to leave it to individuals to listen to it, and i would encourage people really to listen to the arguments to understand how our court system is working or not working, as the case a may be. because the rule of law is what separates us from countries

i didn't talk to president trump until after i talked to general flynn.he other thing that really got me was she said president trump was trying to neuter the obama administration's approach to russia. neuter, really? if you are so concerned about election interference why didn't you say something before the election? they knew about it before the election but kept their mouths shut. if they were so offended and wanted to punish russia or deter russia, why didn't they talk about it right after the election? why wait until three weeks before president trump was supposed to take the oath of office and carry out the foreign policy promise to the american people? if anybody violated the logan act, it was the obama administration. they tried to jinx it for president trump. >> sandra: she was clearly pressed on whether or not former vice president joe biden, former president barack obama had any influence on the investigation. here's how she responded. >> during the meeting, the president, the vice president, the national security advisor did not in any way att
