tom foreman is in the virtual room. tom, this sounds really stark.he study being taken? >> very seriously by scientists out there, jake. and because the western antarctic ice sheet is a big deal. as you noticed, it's huge. they have noticed warming there since the 1970s and long said if you had significant melting by the end of the century you could see water levels rise 6 or 7 inches around the world and they have already recorded melting there. but this new study says what if it happens a whole lot faster? what if you see a lot more than this, and this is why they think that's possible. they came up with a computer model that basically combines all the different things we've tried to measure out there. the heated air up here that's making things melt above. the heated water that's chewing away at the edge of the continent out there and then of course the caving that results. and if you put it altogether, yes, it could happen a whole lot faster, maybe twice as fast as we've seen so far, jake. >> so how deeply might that affect coastal region, and wh

tom foreman, cnn, washington. >> we are back with the panel.oss, is there any chance a draft candidate could come to a contested convention in your opinion? >> any chance in this election cycle? yes, there is some chance because there's some chance of just about anything happening given what we've seen to date. it obviously seems very unlikely. the most plausible scenario is if trump falls short, meaning he both falls short of the threshold and can't round up some of the uncommitted delegates beforehand and then loses on the first ballot, or, you know, has a plurality but not a majority, then the delegates start being freed up. at that point, most of those delegates if the cruz and kasich campaigns have been smart have been precommitted to them. as more and more get uncommitted you'll see cruz's numbers and kasich's start to rise. you'll probably bet on -- and then you do get into the point we were talking about unity ticket fantasy earlier. you get to the point where cruz/kasich becomes the likely scenario. to get to somebody else coming in yo

thank you very much, tom foreman. outfront now, john king and our senior political commentator david axelrod. how likely is this outcome that you get this contested convention? >> it is possible. something probable. so much so that david axelrod may change his registration to republican just so he can be a delegate. donald trump needs to win 55% on our current delegate count. we're still waiting on the final numbers from missouri. donald trump has to win 55% of the remaining delegates from here on out to get the magic number of 1237. many republicans think they can stop him from doing that. they're not going to beat donald trump on a conference call. they' the only way to beat donald trump, to stop him from getting that 55, is to beat him on election days and ted cruz is simply underperforming. we're not done counting missouri, but it looks like he will lose that state. the way to beat him is for someone to beat him on election day. >> so everyone in the gop establishment is just upset about that. they're trying to do

cnn's tom foreman breaks down why that is. >> look at all of the states that have voted so far, and look at the delegates that have been collected by the four remaining republican candidate s here. ted cruz has been surging lately. this is the number they all need to get to if they are going to win the nomination, 1237 delegates. anyone of them gets that they are the delegate immediately. why would trump, to any degree, look past ted cruz to marco rubio and john kasich? down here with much fewer delegates? because next week the contest goes to the winner-take-all phase. meaning whoever wins a given state gets all of the delegates and florida is coming on-line. and that is rubio's home state. he is outspending trump there right now and polling relatively well. he's behind trump but not way behind. the same day, ohio comes on-line. that's where kasich is the governor. he's polling relatively well and there are 66 winner -take-all delegates. you see what is happening here. if both of these fellas lose they will be pushed hard to get out of the race. if they both win, they put a significant

tom foreman joins us to explain. >> anderson, you mentioned the magic number.at means is the number of delegates that any one of these guys has to get to clinch the nomination. and this is the delegate count right now. so you see they still have some way to go. if anyone gets to it, it's all over. if not, if you get to july and the convention and nobody has that number, you already have what's called a contested convention. and what that means is that the first vote on the floor of all of these delegates won't just be for show, it will count. now, obviously, if trump, for example, had a big lead going into that, there's a good chance he could win on the first ballot and it would be all over. but if he doesn't, everything changes because at that point, some of these dalgs become unbound. they no longer have to reflect the voting and the delegates could be changing their allegiances and the outcome of all of this becomes much more uncertain, anderson. >> trump says if he doesn't get a nomination, there could be riots. is it plausible that the nomination could be
