nbc bay area's jessica aguirre rejoins us from forestville. jessica. >> reporter: well, raj and janelle, it is very, very quiet here. minus that he pg&e crew that's feverishly working behind us. it is quiet. most people are indoors. it's too dangerous to be driving around or walking around out here. the water is other deep in some areas. it's one thing to see it from above and ee the expanse of it. it's another thing to walk through it. but what's really surreal is to go on routes where cars go but be in a boat instead. that's exactly what some swift water rescue crews were doing today as they went from forestville into guerneville, looking for people that might need some help or some rescuing. they're on these canoes literally going down roadways where water was halfway through houses and just going -- they basically looked like canals. just a surreal experience for those people. and they had to use those canoes to actually rescue people and bring them to higher ground. as raj mentioned, that water will start to recede. we'll start to see mos

she's in the flooded town of forestville. jessica. >> janelle and raj, i'm in forestville which means i'm basically eight miles from guerneville. guerneville is in that direction. the problem is i can't go in that direction because of all this water. forestville impassable at this point just as guerneville is impenetrable unless you're going by boat. so the people that are in all these houses behind me you see here, they're under a mandatory evacuation order. but they didn't evacuate. a lot of them have chosen to stay behind, which means for why. now, for the next 24 the roadways, you in fact, check this out. this is a big truck with 50 inch wheels, tried to make it through this water, made it about halfway down this road that's on the way to river road, trenton, and then started kind of floating a little bit, had to back out. so if a truck that size can't get through, imagine people in regular cars. let's give you a look at what it looks like from above the air so you can get a grander look at this. this is our drone video w

we are along river road here in forestville. gurenville is five or six miles that way and the only way in, once you get past down that road there is by a truck with extremely large wheels or by boat. they wont get there. that will soon change. the russian river crested around 8:00 last night. there was a meeting this morning and they predicted the river will recede below flood stage by 6:00 tonight. some people just aren't waiting and trying to get in and out of the flood zone on their own which is causing problems. it's frustrating for the forestville fire department. firefighters had to deploy the boats to rescue an elderly couple in a suv. the fire department rescued them. they're okay. there's another report of yesterday of a woman that drove past the barricade. the car flooded. she hung toninato a tree until a team assisted her. she is okay. a national guards -- especially any people stuck in gurenville who might need medical assistance. there's been a couple of calls for that. now, first responders rescued 59 people after

earlier today kron-4 spoke with a family who lives in nearby forestville... they say even if they wanted to leave, all of the roads leading out of town are closed. "its crazy. i have lived here forever and i've never seen it this bad. both ways to river road are shut down, railroad is shut down, highway 12 is shut down, occidental road is shut down, there's no way out. we went and checked out guerneville road earlier this morning and the cops were stopping people. it's crazy."
