from san francisco to dailey city, foster city, as you take a look at the inland east bay. it is slippery out there, take it easy. south bay getting some showers now, from santa clara to sunnyvale. as you take a look at what's to the north. this is an indication of how cold the air is, we have mixed precipitation in the hills above lake county, this cold storm is going to continue to come through here, and as it does, we may be even seeing some snow in our higher peaks. it's a level 1 system, snow level between 3,000 to 3,500 feet. i'll be back with an hour by hour look at how long these storms are going to last and when the next storm moves in. >>> a high surf warning is in effect and why at maveric, the waves caused big problems to a couple of boaters. >> reporter: you can see, there's some surfers out there right now, but the same big waves that attract these surfers are not necessarily good for boaters. and a couple of guys found that out the hard way as they were out this morning checking out some of the maverick surfers practicing for the contest when it starts. >> tw

nicely on the san mateo bridge at 4:28 this morning, looking at a 14-minute drive from hayward to foster cityose. a big apartment fire overnight. and right now more than a dozen people are without a home. abc 7 news reporter matt keller just arrived on scene. matt? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. check out this devastation. you can see these units are destroyed this morning. what a fire here in san jose. firefighters will be out here for a while making sure there are no hot spots and they have to secure the building. check out what they faced early this morning. the first call came in just before 12:30, a two-story, eight-unit apartment building. firefighters went into rescue mode. once they had all 16 people accounted for, which included five kids and some pets, they backed off and went defensive spraying water from the outside. took about an hour to knock down the flames. fires like this in the middle of the night can be dangerous because most people are sleeping. >> we had a lot of people at risk at night. these scare the fire service because we are concerned about citizen safety. than

at the san matteo bridge, traffic is flowing nicely, about 14 minutes from hayward over towards foster cityracking some breaking news, a fire burning at a cardboard factory in santa clara. >> one of the concerns is hazardous material. matt keller live for us on the scene. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. a lot of smoke coming off this fire here in santa clara. that is why firefighters are putting some water on it here, they're making sure that we get the flames out that are in these cardboard piles that are stacked here next to the manufacturing plant. the good news, though, the plant manager confirms all employees have been evacuated from the building and are accounted for. check out this video tweeted by the santa clara fire department. a lot of fuel. this is a cardboard manufacturing plant on matthews street, in the storage area on the outside of the building, it is not in the building. several cardboard bales are stacked 15 feet high. overhead high voltage lines made it extra dangerous for the firefighters on scene. >> one of our biggest concerns was basically making

hayward area and if you're jumping over to the san mateo bridge, 13 minutes and drive time into foster city. jumping over to rich land bridge, lightly traveled and easy ride, eight minutes. you should have no trouble working your way across the bridge. if you want to hop on the east shore freeway, that's an easy commute and no trouble. gets a bit busier and we're starting to see a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. still about ten minutes on the mack arthur mays and -- mcarthur mays and light and bright. >> big bright light was strong and big super moon and today more clouds coming and may see the moon itself but we're not skiing patchy fog unlike yesterday morning. a lot of fog building up but today looks like mostly clear conditions and temperatures feeling pretty good. 53 in san francisco, bummed up a bit and no 30s in sight but good start to reality. a lot of people going back to work today and at least temperatures today will feel pretty comfortable, especially this afternoon. visibility nice and clear across the region and may not be dealing with fog heading out for your drive this

the north bay, and i've been tracking this one, this really heavy downpour over 280 to 101 and foster city moving east near hayward within the next 40 minutes or so. as we did look at san jose, you can see the reason why on one side of the city it's raining very heavily, and then right there downtown, it's not raining at all, and then go to willowsland and it's raining again. expect this quickly changing weather over the next several hours. a live look outside, you can see the beautiful clouds building up there, temperatures in the low 50s, and also seeing that in half moon bay looking offshore, the temperatures at 54 degrees, and we will see the potential of some of the small hail developing as well as lightning and even as we get into the evening commute, there's a lot of activity here. it is a busy day tracking this rain moving through, and for most of the bay area, we're looking at another .10 to .25 inch of rain on top of the.50 inch we got yesterday. temperatures in the lower 50s in the north bay and mid-50s in the city. 5-7 inches of snow in the higher elevations. this is a live loo
