the parent of three public school children in san francisco. and i am also the co-foupd founder of the san francisco political action committee where about a month ago, we were visited by supervisor mar and representatives from supervisor weiner and we have fully endorsed this measure and we think that it is an important measure sur that is going to improve the health of our children in san francisco and i am not going come in here and talk about the policy and i think that the policy and the research speaks for itself and the only complaints that i have heard about this measure are completely political and the first one was that people have been saying that this could hurt the reauthorization. and the san francisco unified and i think that we pride ourselves on being data driven and here is pulling from the university of san francisco mccarthy school of public policy and pulling on the reauthorization of the fund and the children's amendment. and the top line approval rating, 86 percent of the population approves the reauthorization of the pub

in san francisco. those populations are not necessarily distinct. so there is likely overlap between them. according to the agency for health care research and quality, there is typically about a 54.8 percent prevalence of obesity in diagnosed diabetes. we applied that rate to our san francisco numbers to get a better sense of what those distinct populations likely are. doing that we found there are likely 83, 249 obese adults in san francisco and 46, 909 diabetic adults in san francisco. in order to measure the cost related to the consumption of sugar sweet and beverages and the health impact that causes, we have to understand a few different factors. so, the first is the direct and indirect cost related to that consumption. direct cost would be the cost of medical care that are directly related to the intervention. so inpatient visits, outpatient visits, drug care, etc. indirect cost are related to work force productivity. these include absenteeism which is sick leave and disability and presentism. w

according to san francisco police department data. however, african american males continue to fall victim to violent crime at an enormously disproportionate rate. according to the sheriff department data and the controllers october 2013 report, 56 percent of the san francisco inmates are african americans while only 6 percent of adult city san francisco are african american. they make-up the single largest demographic groups in jail accounting for the total inmate population. over all the average american population in san francisco continues to plummet increasing by another 16 percent. from 59, 461 to 48, 760 from 2000 census. the overall population is expected to grow considerably. the california department of finance considers the african american population to decline even further by almost 15,000 people by 2050. we are experiencing a crisis in the african american community in san francisco particularly among african american males. as we prepare to celebrate the martin luther king jr. holiday this weekend, what can we as a city

san francisco area. we serve 1,000 children right now and our goal by the end of 2018 is to double that amount of children that are served per year to 2,000. our most important priority right now is to reduce that 83 child waiting list down to zero and we are very pleased to be working with the city and the board of supervisors. supervisor cohen and chiu and sf city in order to reduce and eventually eliminate that waiting list. there are all kind of statistics that show what the power of mentor ship can do for a child in their life. from increased academic performance to increased level of self-confidence to decrease levels of susceptible to join gangs and it's just really simple of just matching a caring adult for a child in need. most of our kids come from single parent households. 10-15 percent of them have an incarcerated parent. we want to help them have a better stronger brighter future. we thank you so much for the special commendation and recognizing the work we do and all the other mentor ship o

we are based in san francisco. i live in san francisco and we hire san franciscans and we benefited from go solar sf. that has been an amazing program but one thing that program doesn't aggress is the issue of energy efficiency, water conservation, transportation, the off loading of natural gas as a fossil fuel that we use to heat our homes and it also doesn't address how to pay for solar electric systems and solar water systems over the life of those systems and that's an impediment and right now the vehicle for that is third party ownership and investors group and wallstreet owns the systems on people's homes and only addresses the solar electric system and not how we reduce the natural gas usage, how we reduce hour water usage and how we decarbonize our transportation and those three issues are actually major issues with respect to climate change and how we respond to that, so we have a huge opportunity to respond to climate change and by engaging a local work force to do that work and skill people up. we have m

do we put it in san francisco or do we put it in san bruno? it's going to go somewhere. 850 bryant has been condemned basically so where are we going to put them? if we put them in san bruno, it's really unfair to the visiting families. they talked about a half hour to 45-minute drive time. a lot of these poor families can't drive. they have to take public transportation. for them it's a half day to get to san bruno and back. that is really unfair and without these families, you deprive these incarcerated inmates of the support that they need from their families. so, we need a facility and this is not jail expansion. several people incorrectly talked about this as jail expansion. this is actually a jail reduction. the new facility would have fewer cells, more program space, and much improved family visitation space. the current family visitation space for men in san francisco is horrid. it's just horrible. so, this would be a much more humane facility with better mental health facilities. and while i'm all in favor of more pretrial diversion a
