fred left this earth friday night at age 86.i was a kid, i spent a lot of time sitting in front of a tv i had on my desk in my room and one of the shows i would watch religiously on channel 5 in las vegas was "fernwood 2 night." this was a parody of a talk show starring martin mull as barth gimble and fred willard as his sidekick and announcer jerry hubbard. i loved this show. this is one of those shows that probably 80% of the people watching it didn't get. maybe 90%.

fred, what did you learn about what they have so far? >> reporter: well, exactly, brooke. they're quite excited about the clinical trials beginning in the u.s. they began clinical trials last week here in germany with some 12 participants and they want to move forward to 200 germany and about 360 in the united states. two things they want to find out. on the one hand whether or not this vaccine has an effect. but also whether or not it is safe. that is a very key thing for them. they say if all of this is certified, that they could not only have emergency rations ready by fall, but they could potentially have millions of doses ready by the end of this year and hundreds of millions in 2021. now, of course, all of that is dependent on whether or not the clinical trials go well and get certification. but the ceo of the company who i talked to earlier, he said he's fairly confident and here is why. >> so you can ask what is the remaining risk if you have those thousand subjects, what is the remaining risk if you have 10,000 subjects and have shown that this is safe. and then y
