let's go to joe friar standing by at baylor medical center in dallas not far from where we sit. joe. >> craig, good morning. we now know the names of all five police officers who were killed in the shooting and we're learning more about each of them. some of the newest names that have been released, senior corporal lorne ahrens, loving father, devoted husband. his wife a detective on the police force. the oldest victim sergeant michael smith, he was 55 years old. according to reports we've read, his family asked him if he wanted to retire. he said, no, he wanted to continue working so he could help some of the younger officers. brebt thompson was -- brent thon worked for d.a.r.t., dallas area rapid transit, married a fellow officer two weeks ago. michael krol, in corrections, came to the dallas area. his family said he wanted to be a police officer because he wanted to try to help meme. tat rick zamarripa, 32 years old, a navy veteran, served three tours in iraq, mattered here in dallas, a huge sports fan. two children, a stepson and daughter, 2 1/2 years old. we heard from his

conference, which was about this bill, which he signed in the presence of a whole bunch of nuns and friarsher people in religious dress. this was last year, mike pence signed a bill that basically made indiana the "we don't serve gays here" state. it was the bill that said it's okay to not serve gay people in the state on the basis of them being gay. jan brewer vetoed the same bill a year and a half earlier, after tons of companies, sports leagues, and even other states vowed to boycott arizona and to pull their businesses out of that state if that bill got signed. despite that experience in another state, mike pence was apparently totally blindsided by the backlash when he did it. by the response when he signed that same kind of bill and the same kind of response that was threatened in arizona actually ensued in indiana. arizona was basically a dry run for what would happen if mike pence signed that discrimination bill, but mike pence apparently had no idea that backlash was coming. he appeared to be literally dumb founded by what was going on in his state and by how he should respond. we
