friedman is very passionate. he has said some things that i don't agree with but i never doubt that he did it based on what he thought was the right thing to say at the time. what is encouraging to me that mr. friedman has said maybe i need to watch my rhetoric. that's why i believe he is the right guy at the right time. he will be trump's voice. trump won the election. secretary clinton would not have picked mr. friedman. donald trump picked him because i believe president trump understands that mr. friedman would be a voice consistent with trump's view of the u.s./israel relationship, that he's qualified, that he has the experience and the passion and the skill set to be america's voice, not just trump's voice. to my democratic colleagues, i know what it's like to be disappointed in an election outcome. i haven't voted for a president who has won in 12 years. but i find myself supporting people for jobs that i would not have picked. the one thing i would say about david friedman that he loves the united states

friedman. he has made a wide range of comments. mr. friedman said that the state department is anti-semitic. he said that president obama is an anti-semite. he said the two-state solution solves a nonexistent problem. mr. friedman called for israeli citizens who are arabs to be stripped of their rights. he has called large parts of the jewish communities a name that is a term used for those who worked in concentration camps. these are lies. the united states has stood firm as an honest broker of peace. we said to both sides you can trust to help end this conflict. it's based on the principle that the u.s. is passionate about peace in israel but dispassionate about how we get there. mr. friedman is not objective about how we get there. on the contrary he's very passionately for settlements and he's very passionately against the two-state solution which means he's basically against decades of bipartisan u.s. foreign policy. just a few months ago, the organization he led advertised that they have

on the other side is milton friedman. burns is most prominent economist in the united states. he was the chairman of the federal reserve board from 1970-1978, and he did not believe central banks could do much about inflation. as i said, you have to put yourself in the mindset of the 1970's to think about how the economy was being run, with the central banker saying inflation is not my problem. in burns' view, the way to fight inflation was to deal with what he called the public psychology. today, we regard the fed chair as a most powerful economic actor with respect to economic policy in any country. fed chair arthur burns thought of his role as being psychologist in chief. that sort of thinking seem to say that governments were powerless in the face of slower growth. high unemployment and persistent inflation. as paul volker would show starting in 1979, the government is not powerless in the face of inflation, but the persistent inability to deal with slow growth and high unemployment had two important consequences. one was rising criticism of the welfare state. the welfare
