i am garvin thomas. an attorney says there isow an the supreme court nominee. the white house firing back with new details of the investigation. marianne favro talked with some of her close friends today. >> reporter: dozens of supporters gathered here in campbell to create posters showing they sign behind dr. christine blase ford. those posters. arms with pens, convictions and personal messages for christine blase ford, dozens of people met at the snake and butterfly. christine's friend of palo alto said when she learned christine will testify, she broke down and cried. >> she didn't ask for any of this. why is she having to go in front of the senate and defend herself continuing this nightmare. >> another close friend said she support's christine's decision to testify. >> i am thrilled that she is coming out to testify in the face of the disbelievers and haters because i know she is a credible person. >> reporter: all four individuals ford said were at the party when she was in a party. sources say ford will testify thursday. reporting live in campbell. maria

garvin thomas is here to update us on a 6-year-old dog whisperer. >> a lot of people will remember meghan she's now 7 years old and every bit as precocious as ever. the story in how she succeeded in rescuing that dog when so many others had failed has struck a chord. it's been watched online over a million times. it was in december of 2016 that karen topping and her then 6-year-old daughter meghan got into their pickup truck and drove from their morgan hill home to hollister. a dog daisy they had fostered ran away from home. despite the best efforts of an experienced team of rescuers, daisy remained on the loose for two whole months. >> she told me she would come to me and i believed it. >> which is exactly what happened. now, karen already knew her daughter had an animals. they had worked with and trained hundreds of rescued and feral ones at home. what she could not have guessed that day is how many millions of people would end up watching the video she took. her first clue coming the very evening our bay area proud story aired and two women came up to them at the local pet store. >> is

i'm garvin thomas. >> and i'm anusha. tropical storm florence is claiming more lives. florence's deadliest feature is its storm surge, which is turning entire communities into rivers and lakes. nbc's jay gray is in hard hit carolina beach with the latest on the damage done. jay? >> reporter: good evening. look, the staying power of the storm is unbelievable. we're still getting wind gusts over 30 miles an hour. been that way for more than two days, more than 48 hours, but the big issue right now with this storm is rain and the plodding pace, just moving at 2 miles an hour. it's also a massive storm, you can see it is still stirring up this atlantic here, giant breakers out there, but it's also wreaking havoc inland as well. a day later, the effects of florence are no longer measured by wind or water. the storm now being blamed for at least nine deaths, including a mother and her infant child, who died when a tree fell on to our home in wilmington. the storm has lost a bit of its power but none of its punch. >> we face walls of water at our coast, along our rivers, acro

i )m garvin thomas, in for terry mcsweeney. and i )m vicky nguyen. thieves hit another apple store. this time on the peninsula. it )s just the latest heist... that )s over... in a matter of seconds. nbc bay area )s thom jensen is live in burlingame .with more. we continue to follow a developing story near lake tahoe. getbout 11:30 today here just before lunchtime. a spokesperson would not give us a lot of details, just that it was several people wearing hoodies. he said the suspects grabbed the merchandise off those front display tables, still attached to the cords, yanked them out of the displays, and then ran out and got into that getaway car. also would not give us a description of the getaway car, but they sped off down the street. police say today's robbery is very similar to the others in the bay area recently. thieves were also caught on surveillance cameras in santa rosa just this last wednesday when they hit the apple store there and got away with about 35 grand in electronics. last weekend in walnut creek, thieves made off with about $30,000 worth of iphones and laptops. n

garvin thomas: janelle, raj, i've often told you guys, leading the "bay area proud" series is the best job in all of television news. celebrating week in and week out the best in ourselves. raj: well tonight, we're happy to be launching a new series-- garvin: the very first "bay area proud" aired on january 10, 2012. he told the story of san jose's heritage home, a shelter for homeless, pregnant women. gregory: you know, here looks like a little wild. garvin: helping the homeless is a theme that would appear time and time again throughout the "bay area proud" series. gregory: this strip is real-- garvin: like our story on gregory kloehn, artist who scours the piles of illegally dumped trash in his west oakland neighborhood. then uses the materials to build, small portable homes for those living in the streets. ron powers: so what it is, i got a van-- garvin: we told you about ron powers, the apple engineer, who converted a used van into a mobile laundromat, so he can wash and dry the clothes of the homeless. ron: lord, we know that you love roger-- garvin: while he prays with them. wal

. >> and i'm garvin thomas in for terry mcsweeney. that early-morning chase ended in dramatic fashion. the driver of a stolen van slamming into another car. >> nbc bay area's anser hassan is live in cupertino. a busy weekend. first the crash yesterday into a mcdonald's and now this chase in t cupertino. >> reporter: that's right. good evening. we're at the intersection of stevens creek boulevard and wolfe road, the site of this morning's crash. very busy out here. but this morning, deputies were responding to an alarm going off at a nearby gamestop store when they noticed a u-haul van. they attempted to stop the driver, but he took off. [ siren ] the early morning pursuit was caught on video as deputies chased down the van at speeds of over 100 miles an hour. during their pursuit, deputies learned the u-haul van was reported stolen from san jose. after the crash, the air bag deployed and the driver couldn't open the door. you see here the driver climbing out of the window and immediately dropped to the ground and surrendered. a second

. >> i'm garvin thomas in for terry mcsweeney. for the second day in a row, a small quake rattles the bay area, but this later one is causing serious concern. >> the 3.4 magnitude quake was centered northeast of milpitas right in the middle of one of the bay area's largest reserv r reservoirs. thom jensen joins us live where crews are inspecting the reservoir tonight. >> reporter: this latest quake was right on the calaveras reservoir where there's already an $800 million seismic safe dam project under way. the old dam, the 98-year-old dam that was in place is still in place there. the water below it had to be lowered to just 40% of capacity way back starting in 2001 after the state regulators told the san francisco public utilities commission that it was unsafe. and if a quake happened, a large quake, it could flood fremont. and then the water was reduced even further, just 20% capacity now to make room for that dam project, the new 220-foot-high dam that is scheduled to be completed next year. now, we did talk to a spokesperson

garvin thomas held his second annual bay area proud blood drive yesterday.d blood center says they are at critical levels for types of blood. local hospitals need to collect between 1,000 and 1200 units of blood every week. the bay area is known traditionally for low turnout. >> we are so fast paced. we only see 2% to 3% of that 38% that's eligible come out to donate so basically we have 2% or 3% or less than that actually of the population taking care of all of our local patients. so we're really hoping to see some first time dopers that become lifelong toners today. >> 133 units of blood were collected bringing our two-year total for bay area blood drives to more than 250 units, enough to save 750 lives. wonderful. >>> it's just about 7:17. let's check in with vianey arana with a look at our sunday forecast. yesterday was beautiful but breezy and you say today will be similar? >> yes, especially for the coastline. yesterday we had the winds kicking up and a couple of areas that saw wind speeds 15, 20-mile-per-hour but look at the current conditions in san
