geoff: for u.k.ssets, i think investors have really started to move away from brexit and from the underlying situation in the u.k. sterling weaker up ahead. even if we get a brexit deal out, that is an opportunity to move away from sterling positions because growth is not going to catch up. the key thing here is, it has not been as consistent as what we have seen in france and germany. in france there has been consistent support throughout, whereas in the u.k. you have hit off and back on again, still time-limited. on the fiscal side, even after yesterday, there will be some scarring, some damage. more crucially, the bank of england is overestimating how strong the u.k. economy will become how resilient the economy will be. result, through qe, i don't think there will be negative rates in the near future. qe and a weaker sterling, both of that will be part of the meeting. next year if we are right on european reflation, and in the u.s. as well, i think that is when the u.k. will start to underperform

geoff, first to you, the biden transition entering a key phase. we expect to see him as soon as 1:00 unless there's some delay. we expected this weeks ago, to begin with the transition. now they can actually start doing their jobs. >> reporter: you're right about that, andrea. and look, in preparing to speak with you, i went back and looked at the calendar and made note of the fact that the biden transition was supposed to have lasted 74 days. because of this unprecedented delay by president trump, biden has now lost 17 days. that's almost a third of the planning time during his transition that he has now lost. and there are real opportunity costs to that, even though joe biden has the obvious advantage of not being a rookie. this is someone who has committed almost 50 years of his life to public service, both as a senator and then eight years as the vice president. but today, i'm told, the outreach, the interactions between the outgoing trump team and the incoming biden administration, has started, as the biden official try to get a good read on

joining us now to talk about all of this, geoff bennett in women mink t wilmington and also correspondent yame schltsyamesh. and today biden named more members of his cabinet. walk us through some of the big names on the list. where do they fall on the ideological spectrum? >> well, the president-elect is rounding out his white house staff by drawing from the senior ranks of his campaign. so some of the names you see may be familiar, some may not be, but you have dillon, that is a name that people so know, she is the first woman to run a winning democratic presidential race. she took over the biden campaign when it was a small operation in the primary, and grew it into a juggernaut in the general election. and you have also got said rick richmond, he will have a role in the xwud similar biden administr to the role valerie jarrett had, public engagement is key to his role. and dr. jill biden, her long time aide will be her senior adviser. and so what you see is that the biden transition team is filling out key executive staff positions as they said that they would comdo. none require senat

let me start with you, geoff, because you're on the campaign trail.a lot of strategy, other than the crowd is there some grand plan that campaigning against tony fauci. >> for the president to pick a fight with dr. fauci, it is a curious fight given that president trump is facing the worst polling position for an incumbent since george h.w. bush in 1992 and that dr. fauci, according to our latest poll, has the highest positive rating of something like 50%. the reason why, apparently, with dr. fauci, a one sided fight, is because dr. fauci has a much lower approval rating among trump supporters. and it's not helpful for this president when the coronavirus has emerged as a central theme and issue in this election for dr. fauci to come out and give his science-based analysis, his opinions to "the washington post" where he said joe biden is handled this pandemic more serio seriously and the president is focused on the economy and reopening the country. and we've seen false information bts pandemic, saying we're rounding the curve, that is we know is not t

let's bringa barrett a bd also geoff bennett and also our historian is starting it all off for us. mora, biden working to engage blue collar workers and suburban women. what is the significance of joe biden being in beaver county, pennsylvania as one of his final stops of the campaign? >> beaver county checks both of those boxes for joe biden as he campaign in this final day. we're just are north of pittsburgh and this is an area with a lot of blue collar former union workers. it long has been seen as an area where they say democrats live but vote republican. and here in 2016, trump won by 19 points. and this is after a couple presidential cycles where the county used to vote democratic, an area where steel working used to be huge and people are looking for the local economy to be boosted by a new cracker plant in the area that is supported by fracking. so biden appealing directly to voters saying no matter how many times donald trump lies, i will not ban fracking. but it is these suburbs where biden is looking to shore up support. he has been visiting areas in pennsylvania, workin

geoff: that has been going on for a number of years now. it hasn't just happened. , at has changed this year reasonable call for an independent inquiry -- inquiry into the origins of the coronavirus. the problem is the timing and the way we didn't do it with other countries. ishink that unleashed what referred to as wildfire diplomacy. there have been a series of retaliatory actions against china by australia. they have been in a downward spiral in the relationship. particularly in areas like foreign investment. austrianntly when the of aurer blocked the sale foreign asset. rishaad: there has been a lot of good talk about the so-called 14 grievances that beijing has outlined to canberra. is this a message to stay out of our affairs, as much as it is virtually to every other country? geoff: i see it as another one of the tit-for-tat measures that was badly judged by the chinese mc in canberra. grievances is well-known and well discussed, and there are no surprises on the list. i think it was probably a reaction to australia the part statemen
