and then in georgia, this happened in georgia. on this show for some time, knowing that donald trump was going to run again in 2024 if he lost in 2020 so he could make this argument that he was running for office and these were politicized. understanding all of that, i had said several years ago that perhaps the worst of all the terrible legacies that donald trump has left on the political system would be a former president of the united states being indicted. but that has to be balanced against perhaps even the more grievous legal sin of telling americans one man is above the law. so it's a terrible choice. two things can be true at one time. there are three indictments in overwhelmingly democratic areas. there are two brought by elected prosecutors in overwhelmingly democratic areas. there are two brought by a justice department run by the biden administration, who is running against donald trump. donald trump set it up that way. and the trials are moving at a much faster pace to get done, at least the january 6th case to move e

jury believes they were part of the illegal effort to overturn the results of georgia's election. the acts identified as predicate acts or acts of racketeering activity are crimes that are alleged to have been committed in furtherance of a criminal enterprise. as a racketeering activity -- acts of racketeering are charged as separate indictments against those who are alleged to have committed them. all elections in our nation are administered by the states, which are given the responsibility of ensuring a fair process and accurate counting of the votes. that includes elections for presidential electors, congress, state officials and local offices. the state's role in this process is essential to the functioning of our democracy. georgia, like every state, has laws that allow those who believe that results of an election are wrong, whether because of intentional wrongdoing or unintentional error, to challenge those results in our state courts. the indictment alleges that rather than abide by georgia's legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal racke

in fulton county, georgia. and now, right on cue, georgia republicans have this new power they just gave themselves, and sure enough, a republican state senator in georgia has just announced that as soon as this new remove the prosecutor law goes into effect, in five weeks, on october 1st, he is going to start proceedings in the georgia legislature to use this new, law to use this new power, to remove fani willis from her job. does returning fani willis said today, she wants the trial of trump and his codefendants to start in eight weeks. to start on october 23rd. well, if republicans in the georgia legislature go through with what they say they are planning, that will mean, we'll be looking at a republican effort to remove fani willis from her job as prosecutor right as this thing could be going to trial. now, i should note, this new power to remove prosecutors is already being challenged in court in georgia. earlier this month, a bipartisan group of dea from different georgia counties filed a lawsuit, saying

in the georgia case and in the d.c. case the judge is going to be deciding when is there a trial date. d.c. in particular, that's going to happen on august 28th. when the judge said essentially, you keep doing this it's going to be a factor in why it's going to be sooner. so that's one reason that he may be putting a muzzle, it least temporarily, and the other is, and this is where we have experts on the show better than i, if he's out on bail, three cases soon to be four cases, in georgia in the statute requires that a judge find that he is not a risk of flight, not in the danger to the community, and does not pose a risk to obstructing justice or interfering with witnesses. i know in d.c. judge chutkan is going to be focused on that like a laser. no prosecutor, no judge wants to see a defendant inciting violence and trump has a long history. those i think are the constellation of reasons why we may see, for at least a short time, a more muted donald trump. >> gwen keyes fleming, andrew tease these up for georgia exper
