gerri: long way to go.an, you were one of 34 house republicans who voted against the continuing resolution, now some lawmakers want to remove house speaker mike johnson from his speakership role including kentucky senator rand paul who told maria just this weekend that johnson should lose his job. congresswoman, explain why you voted against the continuing resolution and do you think the house needs new leadership? >> i think i would not want mike johnson's job right now. being the speaker when you have such narrow majorities, you've got such a diversity of opinion of republicans, republican house members, it's very difficult to try to come to a consensus. i voted against the continuing resolution as i always have because i have fought against overgovernment spend which is what we have seen. this will be my third term. we always seem to wait until the last minute to negotiate some of these things and the overspending that has gotten us 20% inflation, the overspending and overreach has gotten us $36 trillion

if you look at, nothing against gerry connolly, if you look at the energy he brings versus the energy aoc brings, the amount of people who are interested in listening to her and her ability to push a message, to hammer home points during debates, during committee meetings, this was a major miss. >> not to mention her outreach, consider something like social media loan, the ability to speak to an audience i would argue gerry connolly cannot reach, not saying he is not an effective communicator, he will not reach the masses in the same way someone like aoc is, and somebody, that may be a critique of the media environment that we live in, some of the draws attention. aoc, ultimately when she speaks, people cover her, watch her, listen to her, that is what you need to mobilize the spotlight from a minority position in the oversight committee. >> absolutely. someone that can grab onto the megaphone and speak to the masses and let people know what is happening within the administration, the administration does not want you to know about. this specific income thing trump administration, that

gerry connelly won that vote today.cy pelosi whipping votes for him. now again, to her credit, enormous credit, pelosi did choose to step aside and relinquish her job as house minority leader to a new generation of leadership. she also played an enormous role in the successful effort to push joe biden to step aside this summer, which was very hard to do and i think the right thing to do. now pelosi whipped votes to make sure that connelly got the oversight job over the young star in the party, even as the 84-year-old pelosi is recovering from hip surgery after suffering a fall. it feels like a moment of genuine madness. and look, no one wants to think about their own mortality. i sure as heck don't. there are lots of people who live very long, active lives well into their 80s, 90s, even john paul stevens lived years after he retired from the court at the age of 90. but as a general matter, this is a very risky undertaking for everyone. and democrats are not taking this issue seriously, despite everything that's happened

gerri just touched on some of these things. week would be that the jobs report would be stronger, but where do you see the fed after tomorrow's jobs report? if. >> yeah. i think the trick here is that we've got inflation rising again, so we've had a couple months now where it's been on the upswing. that was supposed to be long past at this point. and we are getting really mixed numbers on the economy itself, right? so we had, you know, very good numbers on the gdp. we had also a very good jolts report a couple days ago, so quits and layoffs are looking very nice. however, at the same time we've got all, you know, the pmi was a lot weaker. we've got numbers that are saying there is -- things are not quite as rosy under the hood, and a point i've made for a while now is a lot of the strength we're seeing is government spending. so it's the either literally hiring government workers, pumping out money, the inflation reduction act has been sort of holding manufacturing up for those sort of crony sectors when the rest of manufacturi
