kpix 5 reporter kiet do has the latest from gilroy where the manage long distance bus was towed. kiet. >> reporter: good afternoon. we're live here at the towing company on monterey highway in gilroy where in just the past half-hour, about a dozen state and federal investigators have arrived on scene. they tell us they will have an update at 2 p.m. here at the scene later today. in the meantime the coroner has also released the name of the second victim. her name is maria ortiz velazquez, 76 years old from salinas. now sits in the tow yard in gilroy, the focus of not one but two teams from the chp and the ntsb. they are running parallel investigations trying to figure out what this man, 58-year-old gary bonslater from victorville, was doing. witnesses say he was nodding off at the wheel and he had pulled over in gilroy to get coffee to stay away wake. in fact bonslater even told authorities he was exhausted. the investigators will put together a 24-hour profile to determine what bonslater was doing in the days leading up to the crash. meanwhile, anen to john al vera has been wait

she's live in gilroy with the latest developments. kris. >> reporter: we know there was surveillance camera and investigate lers be looking at footage from that. we know they will be looking at driver fatigue. that driver we now now is 58-year-old gary bonslater. he has been driving for gray lound for 26 years. he's from victorville down in southern california. until yesterday he had a clean driving record that changed just before 7:00 yesterday morning as he crashed his bus into those black barrels between the northbound highway 101 car pool lane and the connector to the highway 85 hov lane. two women were killed. one man has major injuries and eight other passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries, one of them an 8-year-old boy. those 20 passengers started their overnight journey to the bay area from l.a. nearly seven hours before. the chp says most told investigators they were asleep, but a few others said the driver seemed drowsy. the chp also reports that bonslater admitted being tired but he did not fall asleep at the w

they have the bus towed to this yard here in gilroy. but also they have a statement from the bus driver himself. there's also surveillance video from inside that bus. now we know there are passengers who claim they were awake at the time and that the bus driver seemed tired. the driver is there man, gary bonslater, a 58-year-old man who has been driving for greyhound for 26 years. he's from southern california, specifically the town of victorville. until now he had a clean driving record. that changed just before 7:00 yesterday morning as he crashed his greyhound bus into those crash barrels between the northbound highway 101 car pool lane and the connector to the highway 85 hov lane. there were 20 passengers on board. the bus started its journey in south earn california, in l.a., at 12:30 the night before. most told investigators they were asleep. a few did tell investigators that they thought the driver seemed drowsy. they say he got a cup of coffee in gilroy a few moments before. according to chp bonslater admitted to investigators t

the bus has been moved to a different yard in gilroy. it's larger and they want to try to piece together what happened on tuesday morning at the time of the crash. at this point, the chp is working with the national transportation safety board. the ntsb told us earlier today that so far, they've identified no material defects with the bus. the investigation now focusing on where the passengers were seated. >> and then ascertaining their usage of safety restraints and the bus was equipped with safety restraints but by determining where they're at and whether they were using it or that, we can also then determine were they functioning properly. that's going to be a critical aspect of the collision also. >> reporter: the chp is interviewing passengers and witnesses trying to get more information about what happened. they say they know the roads were wet at the time of the crash and may be a factor. when asked about the driver of the bus, the chp captain says he has no information about the driver's condition at the time of the crash. report
