rudy giuliani is back. the associated press in an article published today that he's seriously eyeing another run for the presidential nomination despite the spectacular failure last time. he's critical of barack obama, saying the democrat has made a faltering economy even worse. of course, it remains impossible for rudy giuliani to speak to a reporter or the public without mentioning 9/11. the ap article quotes him as saying we handled everything, giuliani says now, but this was so far beyond what we'd contemplated. well, it certainly was beyond anything rudy giuliani contemplated, which is why giuliani made the worst tactical decision in the history of the city of new york. it was at giuliani's insis tans that the response was located by giuliani at the world trade center. giuliani was advised by the professionals in his administration that the emergency command and control center should be located in brooklyn instead of at an obvious terrorism target. but the mayor insisted that it be located within walki

seems to me a giuliani voter would go for romney if giuliani is out of the race, and a palin person isbably going to go for for perry. what are the dynamics? >> look, first of all, it's hard to gain this out because a perry voter, excuse me, palin and giuliani voter, they are not the same. the one governor to endorse rudy giuliani's 2008 presidential campaign, rick perry. odd, because ideologically they are far apart, but whether he endorses him down the line, he endorses him. so maybe some of those folks come along. my argument with the race at the moment, i agree with jonathan about the fact that i don't think you'll see any of the top tier people take a shot at perry. i do think huntsman, santorum, gingrich, some of those people might, but rick perry is still in his honeymoon period. the guy announced his campaign august 13. we're not even to the end of august yet, so i think the first month or so you're not going to see anyone take the shots, but that said, september 7 and october 11 or 15, some time in there, rick perry is going to come under serious debate scrutiny. >> i maintain

that's the dynamic you're seeing now, so you have people pushing for paulrian or chris christie, even giuliani is talking-- which i don't think is likely. but there are other people that might be in this field. so that's the dynamic here. i don't think people are all that happy. >> lehrer: there have been a lot of complaints from ron paul and his folks. he came in, within 200 votes of balk map in the straw poll, and he was just brushed aside. is he not considered a serious contender for the republican nomination? >> well i think he's not a serious contender for the republican nomination. he has a floor of very committed supporter asks a ceiling that's not too much higher than the floor because he has very radical views which came out in the debates. he seemed very much excusing of iranianian behavior, libertarian on even the hardest illegalization of the hardest drugs. he has views that are definitely not mainstream views, in my view, and in the view of most republicans. so i do think that he is a force but i think he has a very committed core that's not likely to expand beyond that group. >>
