we were working our way towards glen ellen.ut this is as far as we could get because of road closures. the hill behind me is highway 12. there's a ridge right there that when we came up a few hours ago was covered in flames. now there is a ton of smoke. you can kind of make out the glow from where we're standing. the fire were what we understand is moving to the southeast towards glen ellen and we were there yesterday to capture some incredible footage of just how extensive this fire is. it was destroying many, many homes there including multi- million dollar estates. chopper 5 saw these homes start to crumble right there in front of them. you four days straight. in santa rosa, jackie ward, kpix 5. >>> with these wildfires bringing thick smoke and haze to much of the bay area, this is a live look of the bay area. this is the worst air quality in 10 years. neda iranpour is tracking our high winds and their impact. >> reporter: at least this morning, we are getting a bit of a west wind. we are not smelling as much smoke. berkeley

glen ellen, 45 degrees there and calm conditions. humidity 87%. west winds will increase this morning. then tonight, stronger with east winds of clearlake starting to gust up there, gusts at 17 in mendocino county, 51 degrees. lakeport gusts currently coming in at 22. northwest winds there at 14 sustained. so humidity also a little bit drier there. but nowhere near as dry as yesterday morning and sunday night and monday morning. here's what we're going to expect to see today. so these winds will bump up this morning. they are also going to bump up tonight through tomorrow. the direction of the winds will shift tonight. and that's when we'll get drier air coming in. the temperatures are cooler though. so that's the one bit of good news there. at least those firefighters are dealing with cooler air. so right now we are getting winds from the west. that's helping clear the air, clear that air quality for a lot of folks across san francisco, the south bay and the east bay. but the areas of the fire, here's the big problem this low is going to shift to
