glenn? >> yeah, and the farther north and west you are of philadelphia, the greater the threat of any kind of severe storms. you can see we've got a bit of a line near harrisburg, another little piece up towards scranton. this is all moving in the general direction of the east. it's not moving real fast. mostly severe weather moves very rapidly. this is only moving at 25 miles an hour. and this is starting to move a little bit more toward the southeast here. it's going through harrisburg, and if it continues to move in that general direction, it would be near ex iter about 5:50, pottstown 6:46 king much prussia. that's pretty long. long time between now and when that storm would hit. so a lot of things that can happen here. and the future computer showing that we do have the continued threat of showers and storms as we go through the 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. hours, up to 8:00. there's the storms going right through philadelphia area and in through wilmington. we're talking about heavy rain, and a g

some of them are already creeping in, right, glenn? >> yes. some of them are starting to weaken as well, which is good news for most folks. look at the lightning strikes. first, take a look at the northern storm. hardly any left. then the harrisburg storm. tremendous amount earlier. and now that has weakened. we still have a decent amount of lightning down near baltimore. but this northern area, that has weakened as well. but let's track it, if it continues to hold together, allentown would be about 5:00 to 7:00. these things aren't moving very fast at all. the southern ones, 6:50 at newark, delaware, 7:05 in wilmington. 7:54 in gloster. when storms do not move real fast, they have less of a chance of damaging winds. but a greater chance of very heavy rain. because they're sitting over the same spot for a longer period of 250i78. here's 7:30, and we're still dealing with these storms. 9:00, the futurecast still showing them from trenton down to, well, just south of philadelphia and wilmington area. it will take a while before it all disappears

behind you there, but are they going to hit us, glenn? >> reporter: well, they will hit parts of the area. i don't think they are going to reach the shore or southern delaware. they are tending to weaken already, but you can see there's a band of showers moving down from the north and west, and the heaviest of the activity is moving into the allentown area right now. we have weaker showers in chester county. zoom in a little bit more and from allentown to lehigh to chestnut hill it's fairly heavy, and as we zoom in towards the allentown area itself you can see just how close this is getting into bethlehem. they are getting some light rain now. allentown just now getting into moderate to heavy rain, and that is obviously going to increase over the next hour or so, and as you can see in copley getting some pretty heavy rain and about to get a little bit heavier. the temperature 88 degrees in parts of new jersey. we have that rain and 82 and in lehigh valley, the temperature knocked down by that rain. still not raining in philadelphia or man

first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has more on the storms right now, glenn?yeah. one of the storms is down the shore, and, fortunately, it's been weakening. this is just three hours of a time lapse, and you see the lightning strikes in the white and less and less of them just in the last few images. good thing. it's right between sea isle city and cape may. it's gradually moving offshore. the core of the storm, as you can see, is offsure, just went through cape may courthouse, grazing wildwood, north of cape may itself. so that is good news. there's between wildwood and avalon with the heavier rain. we had a heavy storm in southern delaware. lightning from that one. it's dispating. we have a flash flood warning in cumberland county until 5:30 from rain that already fell from the afternoon and several areas in the dark green of localized flooding. fm fortunately, storms are moving or dying out, and that's what we need to see. the futurecast showing this moving out. we have some other showers, perhaps in parts of pennsylvania over the next couple of hours, but

glenn "hurricane" schwartz has your neighborhood weather. glenn? >> we have good news here, and the lightning strike, no longer there. we had some move offshore. we have some showers in parts of the area, but they continue to weaken. the one exception is actually in burkes county. here's allentown. we're seeing these storms, but they are not getting any closer. that's been the problem today. they don't move very much. they didn't move that much to the shore. fortunately weakened, still getting a little rain for sea isle city down to cape may, but nothing like we were seeing earlier, an hour ago, it was pouring rain, and all up and down, you see that? on the time lapse, that storm coming out, we had another big storm in southern delaware. that's moved offshore. delaware's pretty much cleared out now. so the only advisory we have now is in cape may county, and even that, the conditions are improving. the futurecast shows a few of the showers in southeast pennsylvania, but even those weaken as we go through the evening, and so we're setting up for a b

nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz joining us now. >> hey, keith, collin is going to be moving well south of us. it's going to race out to sea. but it's the third storm of the season. we've never been up to the "c" storm this early in the season in recorded history. so hurricane season's off to a fast start. now we just have a fair amount of sunshine today and lower humidity. the temperature, though, pretty uniform. 85 in allentown and mt. holly, vineland. also in atlantic city. that's because of a mostly westerly wind that we've seen. as we head into portions of new jersey, it's 85 degrees in palsgrove, audubon, lumberton at 85, florence 85. princeton at 83. but it's not as humid as it was yesterday. by the way, you can see your own forecast for the next seven days. the bottom of the screen at any time during the weathercast. not just for philadelphia anymore. you don't have to wait until the end. what we're seeing here, just isolated showers near harrisburg and some of the computer models suggest that a couple could come into parts of the area. this dist

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking those storms for us. glenn? >> yeah, jim, some places are already seeing some significant rain. a lot of our area is dry at the moment. we're waiting for these showers and storms to come in. for example, here's chester county. you can see these showers are coming right in. but it's not the heaviest part of this line. the heaviest is down by baltimore, and washington. so we're catching a break there with the intensity. we have some more that have regenerated back north of harrisburg. this is still north and west of our area. eventually that could have an effect here. this is the area that i'm a little more concerned about. because it's not moving that much. and as opposed to being severe, this could cause some flooding. right around nazareth, bushkill. look what's happened here, just in the last hour. there really isn't much of motion of this cell. everything else is moving, but this particular cell is not. and you can see here tagmore, cherry hill road getting very heavy rain. the slower this thing moves, the mo

glenn, when can we expect the rain to start moving? >> in philadelphia it's already starting to move in and already clearing out in the lehigh valley and in other areas it's never going to reach. you can see it's a line, but this southern portion is just totally falling apart, and that's the portion that's moving into delaware, so in delaware you're not going to get much of anything, now in philadelphia it's a different story. we do have some rain that's come down. there's the pennsylvania turnpike so we're definitely into the city limits. potstown just getting past it and allentown just starting to clear out and bucks county here, fairly well covered with some rain from rich land to buckingham to north hampton and all the way down to ben salem and just about to get it and in northeast philly. there's glenside and abbington and norristown and westchester is in it and it's just about to get into philadelphia, but it's weakening and look how weak it is in delaware. it's not going to be so weak tomorrow. we'll talk more about the timing t

here's chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn, some areas seeing bouts of heavy rain. >> yes, and it's not going to last very long. if you're getting heavy rain now, just wait a few minutes because things are going to change. this area just raced through the whole region over the last hour, hour and a half, so we're already seeing it just about exit right over atlantic city, right now. just south of atlantic city. toward ocean city. ventnor, margate, longport getting it hard, and over toward ocean city, getting some heavy rain out of this. now, as we head into delaware, this heavy rain headed toward seaford, the northern portion is weakening, so it might not hold together all the way through delaware. the rain has knocked the temperatures down. we were in the 80s everywhere, now we're pretty much in the 70s, even some places in the 60s. an hour ago, i was showing you the vineland temperature. it was 85 degrees. now it's 67 degrees. one hour. 66 in medford, cinnaminson, 68. the places that got rainier, they're still cool. th

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz joins us with your neighborhood forecast. what can we expect for tonight? >> for the most part it's going to be a lovely evening. one or two little showers floating around and that's about it. it's 85 degrees. that's as warm as it's gotten so far in philadelphia. the average high this time of the year is now up to 80 degrees. so it's not that warm for this time of the year. we have more clouds in the lehigh valley than just about anywhere else in the area. and that's where one or two of these showers are heading. see how tiny they are. and there it is. if it holds together for the next three hours, it might affect the lehigh valley. but in philadelphia, expect it to stay dry this evening. temperatures not dropping a whole lot. it's kind of a warm air mass. by tomorrow morning, we'll be in the 60s. the suburbs by tomorrow morning a little bit cooler due to the lower humidity. lehigh valley, do have a chance of a shower this evening but again, it would be brief and light. in delaware and at the jersey shore, the temperatures in

glenn? >> always a lot of pressure for these big holiday weekends. and it looks like much of this weekend is going to be really, really nice. that's the way it has been today. 85 degrees in philadelphia now. we've got lots of sunshine across the area. down to 79 in some of the suburbs north and west of philly. 83 degrees in much of new jersey. we have, well, nothing on the radar close by, but we do have clouds, and it will be increasing later tonight. there's some of the showers in wisconsin. that may be affecting us tomorrow. as we go through the night tonight, it's a beautiful evening. temperatures dropping down through the 70s. and into the 60s. by 11:00. as you can see, mostly clear skies. by morning, though, we even have a chance of some showers. even in philadelphia area, and at the shore, and as we go through the day, especially into the afternoon, we have showers and thunderstorms. some of that could be very heavy, with a good bit of lightning and gusty winds, too. the rest of the weekend forecast coming up in just a few minutes. >> okay, gle

glenn, the worst has moved out? >> it is long gone. windy outside, but no storms around. the temperature has certainly dropped. most parts of the area in the 60s right now. but not every part of the area. it's 65 degrees in wilmington now. 67 this glasgow, middletown and delaware. farther south, in the 70s. georgetown 70. 70 plus at the beaches. both a little bit over 70 degrees. that was a pretty impressive line of showers and storms that moved through. and it was so strong, high up in the atmosphere, real strong smg and that is what helped to produce those winds. very strong winds up there. and they came down in those thunderstorms and came out and did all that damage. but look what we're left with, nothing but a couple little sprinkles around the area. we're also left with cooler days around here. it was 83 yesterday, it's been in the 80s for a while. 73 was the high today. tomorrow even without rain, it's only get to ting to 76 and then friday 80. allege warm a little warmer over the weekend, average high this time of year is up to

. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now with a first look at your weekend forecast. >> we're starting off the weekend with a lot of clouds around. it's cooler than it's been because all those clouds and rain, only 74 degrees in philadelphia. 74 in delaware. only 70 in some suburbs. cloudy skies all over the place. we don't have nearly as much rain around on radar as we had this morning, so much of the evening hours are going to be try. you can see some showers out to the west. some of them on the heavier side. not necessarily moving very quickly in this this direction. so i'm not too concerned about anything really heavy. might at that time the umbrella just in case as we go out into the evening. but for most of us, it's just going to be cloudy as we go through the night and into tomorrow morning. it will be humid, that's for sure. pennsylvania suburbs, temperatures not going down a whole lot because of all the clouds and the high humidity. lehigh valley again just mainly just clouds during the night tonight. could be some peeks of sunshine at delaware at the jersey shore, but by morn
