glenn? >> yeah, jim, some places haven't gotten rain at all, while others have had more than four inches of rain and more is on the way. you can see not everybody's getting rain. but most folks are seeing at least some. the yellows and reds indicating the heavier rain. the heaviest lightning right around dover. as you can see, it's not moving very much. that's part of the problem here. you've got heavy rain that isn't moving much. that's a bad combination, you end up with flood threats. middle town getting out of it, and dover right into it as we zoom down just to the north. chestwold, trenton, just getting blasted with some heavy rain. this is drifting, it is not moving, it's drifting toward dover. it's been within 20, 30 miles for the last hour. here we are further to the north, i-78 in berks county, and just to the northeast of reading, some heavy rain. now look at allentown. allentown is getting into it now. the lehigh valley which didn't really have much rain earlier now has it. we've g

glenn? >> some parts of the area have already seen two, three, even four inches of rain in a relatively short amount of time. and there's been some flooding already. and there's likely to be more as we go through the evening and overnight. not a whole lot of areas of lightning right now. we do see some just north of dover. but the heaviest of the rain, we've got one area up to the north. now, what's really weird about this is that everything is moving differently. so we have this stuff moving north toward vineland. we have this area moving a little east. down to the south, this is moving toward the south. so when you have a weak flow of winds high up in the atmosphere, you don't really get a chance for these storms to move out. this part is moving southward toward reading. this part of it, not really moving at all. so we have this flood threat along with the severe thunderstorm threat in berks county. this is the area of the flood advisory, from south philly all the way down to northern dela

things firing up a bit tonight, glenn? >> firing up in some parts of the area. and really dying out in others. we hardly have any rain left in our pennsylvania counties, with the one exception, a part of bucks county. the heavy storm that was in central new jersey and going down toward south jersey has really weakened. just inland from atlantic city coming right down the atlantic city expressway, white horse pike. but it's weakening. the lightning really diminished during the past hour. we do have the flash flood warning in effect for part of bucks county, part of northern mercer confideunty, until 9:15. newtown, grant, north hampton, penndale right now. that cell moving very slowly to the south. meanwhile, the larger area of rain in red, a couple of hours ago moved toward philadelphia and tonightly fell apart. in the meantime we have heavier showers and storms heading into delaware now. this one just crossed the border going in the general direction of dover. we'll talk more about tomorrow's storms and more comfortable air in just a few minutes. >> glenn, we'll

there are some flooding concerns at least in the morning, right, glenn?evening hours. get a bit of a break from philadelphia westward. nothing more than some sprinkles. but there's a lot more on the way. as you can see back in maryland, we've got some heavier showers, now north of washington. we've got another batch in west virginia. another batch back here in west virginia, farther west in west virginia. there's more to come. as we go through the night tonight, hour by hour, you can see waves of rain not so much in the lehigh valley. that's why we don't have a first alert out for lehigh valley at burks county. but there are more patches of heavy rain coming through. but watch how quickly it moves out of here in the morning. by 10:00 a.m. it's gone. there still could be some flooding around from the previous rain. but the rain itself is over. so the first alert is at the lehigh valley, burks county, from 3:00 to 9:00 a.m. it's not for all day tomorrow, and that's because of the flood threat with that heavy rain at times, one with some more thunderstorms.

nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now. >> and glenn, the heat continues tomorrow. >> yeah. of course, in the center of the city, it gets even hotter. the more concrete there is around the area, the hotter the temperatures during the day, keeps the heat in at night. and we have a first alert out for the next couple of days because of this extreme heat. from philadelphia to near pea suburbs, parts of new jersey, parts of delaware, doesn't include the jersey shore, doesn't include the lehigh valley or poconos, this is for thursday and friday for the extreme heat and humidity combination that's going to make it feel like it's over a hundred degrees. plus we have poor air quality. we got up to 89 yesterday. 94 was the official high today. 97 tomorrow and friday. average high is only 87. that's a pretty guaranteed heat wave there. and the hottest weather of the season, at least so far. as we go into tomorrow, we're starting off very warm, and of course, getting hotter. 78 degrees by 7:00 a.m. not quite as hot in the suburbs. but that's still pretty warm. and then a chan

we get the latest from chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn is this. >> yeah, some people are already cooling off with the rain in the area. there are two areas of thunderstorms, both pretty much in new jersey. one that was the most severe looks like it's weakening. the darker colors with the lightning, those are older lightning strikes. we're not seeing the white bolts anymore, so that means that this storm is weakening across the atlantic city expressway. but there's still enough lightning around, getting close to the beaches, that it's time to tell your friends and relatives to get off the beach. because you don't want to get anywhere near the lightning. that storm going past egg harbor city now, galloway, right in the middle of it. the other one, this is the delaware river here, so this is in hunterton county. this cell is not moving very much. and so that is a flood threat. that's why there's a flood advisory until 8:30 this evening for that one. another flood advisory for the one we just showed you, just west of atlantic city. this

glenn?ay, add a higher temperature and higher humidity from yesterday, tomorrow will have a higher temperature and higher humidity than today. there's an excessive heat warning in effect until friday, 6:00 p.m., from northern delaware through the philadelphia region, all the way up to trenton. still 93 in philadelphia. near 90 in many of the suburbs north and west. 93 in many parts of new jersey. and close to 90 elsewhere. yeah, it's kind of rough out there. south jersey, let's take a look and see some of those temperatures. audubon, 96 degrees. mount laurel, and lumberton, # 2. oswego lake, 94 degrees. princeton 90. lumberton 92. tomorrow, add several degrees to that. we're not adding any kind of showers except perhaps some isolated ones in extreme southern delaware. farther to the west, yeah, there's a bunch of activity in parts of kentucky. some of that will be moving in this direction. but in the meantime, of course, the big story is the heat wave, combined with the high humidity. making

glenn? >> yeah, jim, we're not going to be expecting temperatures in the 90s over the weekend. but we are going to be seeing a good deal of cloud cover. we did break the heat wave with a high officially of 89 degrees. pretty close, but not quite there. saturday and sunday we're in the mid-80s. remember, we were 95 yesterday, with the high humidity. and it's in the mid to upper 80s across much of the area now. the jersey shore, cooler than that. a little sea breeze, atlantic city 77, ocean city 77, cape may courthouse 78. and cape may point 78 degrees. things are pretty quiet on the radar. we've seen a lot of sunshine this afternoon, after the heavy rain early this morning. a couple little showers up in the poconos. but very, very light. that is not the case in northwestern pennsylvania and ohio. a lot of that activity is headed this way for tomorrow. as you can see, we could even see some of those thunderstorms developing before noontime tomorrow. so enjoy the morning hours, because that may be the only purely dry time for the weekend. the jersey shore, though, does look like i

glenn?yeah, the storms continue to move, about three hours ago we had the back edge of it, by harrisburg. and now it's pretty close to the philadelphia area. so things are definitely trending toward the east, out of pennsylvania and into new jersey and delaware. now, as we go in a little closer, we'll see some of these pretty heavy showers and thunderstorms. remember, this one was over east notingham. that was heavy, it was producing hail. you can see with the purple area there, that would still suggest hail, perhaps large hail of an inch in diameter. now we have a severe thunderstorm warning for this cell just issued for northwestern new castle county, northeastern cecil county in maryland, and southcentral chester county. just happened to be zooming right into this storm just as the warning gets issued. and we've seen it go just south of new london. and it's right along the border with virginia. and -- or maryland. and continuing to track a little bit to the southeast. now, we've got some
