chief godown. i'm commander lazar. this evening i'm going to give you an overview of the property crimes. at the end, i'm going to give a lot of credit to a lot of people that attributed -- contributed to the situation. when we talk about property crimes, we are talking about property crimes as listed in the uniform crime report. the uniform crime report lists it as burglary or personal theft or other theft, arson, auto theft, and auto burglary. that's what we're going to focus on this evening. as you look at the statistics, going back to 2008, there actually has been a decline in property instances. we see in 2008, property crimes versus 2009 where we covered 30,000. in 2010 we were at about 639. so far year to date, 7,445. although we've seen a spike, and the chief talked about that, if we were to multiply that by four, we would still come a little short, as we did in 2010. weaver hoping that based on our strategy and approach we will see a decline in those property crime areas.

now eight months later, i talked with the police chief jeff godown this afternoon and says there may be a break in the case. they are submitting at least one person's name, another person's name perhaps as well, to the district attorney's office for charges. august 8 of last year, two rival groups of teenagers opened fire in union square killing a tourist in the crossfire celebrating her anniversary and her birthday. now eight months later her husband and two sons are returning to san francisco to tour the city, hold a private memorial, and meet with the district attorney. >> the district attorney is meeting with the family as is customary. they either meet directly or by phone. >> reporter: police initially arrested an 18-year-old for the shooting but released him for lack of evidence but now the police chief says there is a development in the case. late last week, investigators recommended charges against at least one suspect. but he says so far the d.a.'s office has not yet acted upon those recommendations for charges. >> what's the holdup for the arrests? >> i cannot confirm any
