i believe historically that the board of supervisors does have control of what happens in golden gate parkon square. everybody has a use for golden gate park, and if you took all the different strongly argued buildings and proposals and things like that, there would hardly be an inch of grass. it would be filled with different monuments to different projects, so i think it is very important for the board of supervisors to take an interest in what's happening. i further think that the rec and park is using the business model trying to generate revenue for itself and the city by charging for different things, and frankly, i would hope that most of it is just an honest thing to do, but we do have an investigation going on, where one of their things is under investigation. i think this is very worrisome to give a vendor four years of operations making tens of millions of dollars prospectively with a very small slice going to the rec and park. most of it is going to a nonprofit that's currently under investigation. let's let everybody have their fun and celebration for one year with the wheel,

this resolution regarding the sky wheel or known really as the observation wheel in golden gate park - the resolution itself is asking for the board to extend its state -- well, first, to rectify its existing contract for one year in honor of the golden gate park 150th anniversary. and asking for a year extension which ends on march 15, 2020. and the reason is that i have been working on this issue and have asked for a continuance while it was before the historic preservation commission. and really with the thought that perhaps, you know, i'm sure that you -- many of you are aware that many of my constituents actually are on both sides of this wheel. some -- many of them opposed, some also support. and at the time of the historic preservation commission there were more opposition than support. however, you know, being that the supervisor representing all of my constituents i wanted to hear all of their concerns. i do find that the one-year extended stay is reasonable, given the fact that that was the proposal, you know, in honor of the golden park 150th anniversary. and like many of o

i live next to golden gate park. i'm an urban planner, and i see how important it is to take action to prevent greenhouse gases across the board. i've lived in san francisco 23 years without a car. the park is where my family hikes, plays, stores. it's an extension of my home. i think we need to keep j.f.k. closed to cars. kids from all neighborhoods should be able to access the park from surrounding neighborhoods. they will be able to walk and take their bikes without crashes. from farther neighborhood, we need to look at robust transportation efforts to get people to park. we need to look at kids in these presentations, to get them to the park. cars are the highest emitters. g.h.g.s. we don't have time to compromise when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. keeping j.f.k. closed to cars will help contribute to that. next, i want to talk about how san francisco can look and act like a world class city while we can reduce cars and elevate small businesses at the same time. a lot of case studies show that -- >> thank

the sky star observation wheel in san francisco's golden gate park will remain at that site for four more years. the ferris wheel is overseen by the nonprofit san francisco parks alliance. the alliance has been under investigation for possible ties to the city's public corruption scandal when the wheel was built a year ago, it was only supposed to stay in the park until the end of this month. last week, the city's reckon parks department approved a plan to keep it there in golden gate park through march of 2025. to san francisco supervisors are now calling for a review of the contract. this is beyond the ferris wheel. this is really about good and clean government. all these revenue is going directly to a federal and city investigation. instead of cities general fund, even though the ferris wheel will remain in golden gate park for another four years, the city won't get. the revenue from ticket sales under the current contract, the fares will is set. to reopen the writers tomorrow. and we're tracking the weather. i talked about some rain coming. looks like it's a friday night overnigh
