scott gottlieb, who joins us from west point, connecticut.morning to you, doctor. >> doctor: good morning. >> brennan: i thought there was some news from dr. fauci on a few fronts, saying elementary kids could be vaccinated in the first quarter of 2022, and high school kids, possibly by the fall. that seems new. >> doctor: i think that is right. i think when you're looking at vaccinating children, they're going to look at it from the standpoint of the social environment kids are in. i think the likelihood that we're going to be ready to vaccinate grade school kids is very unlikely, at least this year. that is really a 2022 event, probably. i think it is probable that we will be vaccinating high school kids at some point this year. one of the vaccines, the pfizer vaccine, has already approved down to 16. there are studies under way with all of the vaccines looking at younger age populations with their vaccines. i think we'll be in a position to be ready to vaccinate a high schoolhigh-school-aged population some time this year, and put it into

scott gottlieb. he joins us from west port, connecticut. good morning to you. >> doctor: good morning. >> brennan: i want to ask you about the ma york, who appeared to be disagreeing with dr. fauci because dr. fauci said the new variants they're tracking in new york city are showing resistance to therapies and to the vaccines. the mayor of new york said his health department said that the vaccine works. and he said we're not seeing reinfection of people who have had it previously. what is going on in new york? >> doctor: yeah. the trends in new york look concerning right now. if you look at other parts of the country, where b117, the variant from the united kingdom is becoming prevalent. you're not really seeing an upsurge i infections. you're not seeing these fourth wave. in new york, 1526 and b117 -- with that you're seeing a backup in cases. hospitalizations are still declining slowly. new cases are about 3,000, and the positivity rate is about 6%. you're seeing sort of a backup in new york that you're not seeing in other parts of the co

gottlieb, should point out, is on the board of pfizer. if he is right, that is a huge step toward getting the virus under control. what more do you know about that? >> well, we have better and better news about the vaccine. what you are seeing, already, in the u.s., is a dramatic decrease in nursing-home death. and that is, undoubtedly, an impact of vaccination. already, these vaccines are saving thousands of lives in this country. and that effect is going to get even greater, in the coming weeks, as vaccine-induced immunity kicks in for more and more people who are over the age of 65. so, this is making this virus even-less lethal. and there is growing evidence that it reduces the likelihood that you'll spread the virus to others. but we don't know that, yet. it's not certain. but i do think, that the vaccine is getting the best of the virus. now, we're not out of the woods. it ain't over, till it's over. you are seeing explosive spread in europe and parts of latin america. you are seeing variants, that can overwhelm the immunity that yo

sttco gottlieb's take on the latest on the fight against covid coming up >>> some news breaking in thecovid vaccine is well tolerated in a trial of 12 to 15-year-olds and showed 100% efficacy dr. scott gottlieb, former fda commissioner, who sits on the board of pfizer and illumina and he is a cnbc contributor i have to say, i'm pretty excited about this because they say they'll be filing in the next few weeks with the fda to extend that coverage all the way down to 12-year-olds that would be much sooner than i would have anticipated how long would something like this take to work its way through the fda? >> well, we probably have it in time for the fall school year, which is what people are focused on this will probably take about a month. the last applications took about a month for the fda to review. i would expect this data to take the same amount of time that the fda is going to go through it very carefully, bring it before a public advisory committee. they'll go through the same careful process that they've gone through with the datasets for the adult population it puts you in a p

gottlieb but what i can give you is that europe really has struggled in its strategy towards this since the onset. so think from an allocation standpoint, you can look at the united states and see that it will be very dissimilar in the potential favorable outcome versus what we're witnessing in europe and therefore, you can have that strong commitment within your portfolio towards a recovery and a rebound in partular for a lot of the impaired or injured parts of industry that was so significantly impacted by the pandemic last year >> yeah, i want to get to joe. your value picks within technology, because this sort of goes to the notion of the value trade within technology. alphabet and microsoft and then you've got monster, which you can explain later. but in terms of alphabet and microsoft? >> steven really explained it well at the top of the show. when thinking about alphabet, they're expanding the capital allocation strategy that obviously works well for apple in prior years and alphabet saw that and now they're beginning to incorporate that in addition to that, you've got the ever-e
