that is moving to the northeast, moving into granville county very shortly. and then let's pan down as we head on down this line. and we see some shear indicated in chatham county. the tornado warning still in effect there. and then down further south, also some shear going on in south and southern pines in association with the cell affecting hope and southern moore coty all of these areas continue to be under tornado warnings at this particular point in time. >> i just got a report of 2 1/4 very large hail phone there. let's take a look at the warnings. if you're just joining us there multiple tornado warnings. the pink polygons. ella polygons are severe thunderstorm warnings in effect. they extend from southern virginia, in fact if i get a broader view, you can see how far they extend, all the way up into northern virginia, expecting interstate 64 into south carolina. this is a very large line and certainly encompasses north carolina. the new tornado warning just issued for southeast person county, vance, granville county, north-central durham afternoon. and

if you are in granville county especially northern counts of vance county as it tracks to the northeast, all of those areas, take cover. take it seriously. confirmed tornado on the ground. the first confirmation we have gotten of a tornado on the ground. with have reports of a doppler you really don't know until you get a confirmation. you don't know until you get some sort of visual there has been a tornado on the ground. we get into the triangle now. you see very intense thunderstorm over the city of durham. you see it looks like rotation, potentially these areas around south of downtown durham. there could be a little rotation that could have some sort of rotation. that tracking to the northeast. ucr skycam looks ok. not much rain and wind. it could be a totally different story. you need to take cover immediately if you haven't already. through the afternoon hours, the rotation doesn't look quite as impressive as it did earlier with the velocity data that shows the rotation. still this is moving. you can seeing as it moves it is moving right along highway 421 perhaps a little bit to

this is granville county, where one house was destroyed in three or four others are damaged. heather is trying to make sense of it all -- what do you see? >> this is pretty incredible. we just rolled up a few minutes ago, and look behind me. trees split in half, power lines down. this house behind me, one of the trees went through the roof. i talked to the son of the woman who lives here. an 80-year-old woman was inside when the tornado touched down. she told her son she heard what was a loud boom, so she ran into the bathroom, got in the bathtub, and called her son. but this isn't the only house on the street affected. houses on this road that have also been affected. the house to my right, the roof completely torn off. we talked to a lot of people out here who are here to check on neighbors, many who want in the area. we haven't been able to find anyone who lives here, who is still here, but this tornado -- police have just come through and roped off all of these houses. right now they are just surveying the damage. we have a lot of overturned cars, right past where i'm sta

neighbors in granville county are working nonstop to help tornado victims. steve: several families have been impacted by the tornado. a local faith-based restoration company, church, family, and friends, all spend the day removing valuables. they say it is their faith that compels them to help out people whose homes have been destroyed. the department of agriculture is also there and the forest service is helping to remove all of that debris. at they found the tornado on the ground in granville and vance county was on the ground for about five miles, six minutes. a terrifying time that chris was tracking for us. tisha: there was damage, but nice to see all of those people coming together to help out. steve: chris, you were talking you know firsthand how deeply impacted they were by that storm. chris: yeah, on the ground for just a few minutes and look at the damage it did. it just shows you how quickly they can spin out and they leave a long time for recovery. hopefully the recovery will continue to go quickly, too. we have a cold night ahead. the winds will

we are here in randall county, -- granville county, abc 11 eyewitness news. anna: so good to see people coming together. a sheriff's deputy reunited with a dog she helped rescue from horrible conditions last week. the alaskan malamute for the last seven months being nursed back to health. gloria rodriguez has the story. >> he gave me a hug. andrea: this is what marty did win sheriff's deputy dakota banks found him in deplorable conditions last july. marty, dimple, and two dozen other dots were found in a home, emaciated and dehydrated. three dogs died. the owner had 28 counts of animal cruelty. but a rescue took in marty, dimple, and other dogs and nursed him back to help. >> i like that he has been through the worst conditions known to animals, but he still wants to love. it is inspiring to me. andrea: -- gloria: she made the track to reunite marty with deputy back. >> they have a special relationship. they were hugging and it was really happy. gloria: dimples was part of the group taken along with marty and now dimples is looking for a good home. if you're

of course, the one that got most of the damage was the one in granville county. that was an ef2. we would like to join you in that area around the airport here and we can see the homes s wind -- winds were at 125 miles per hour. it was moving at about 60 miles per hour. it was only on the ground for a few minutes. there was a trade on the ground for one minute and winds were 90 miles per hour. that was five miles northwest of downtown in a forest it area. the other damages that happened in this neighborhood, those were straight-line winds. and another tornado in southwest wayne county. it was on the ground for one mile and one quarter and it did damage to a barn and a couple of other structures, but no other injuries there, either. but that is the good news. there was an ef1 in mecklenburg county. it didn't cause any injuries is there but a little bit of damage. it has been a blustery day. not as a strong as they were earlier, but winds up to some areas at 15. 43 in lewisburg, and that tornado went right overhead. that automated sensor there was knocked out, at least temporarily.

the worst of the damage was in granville county, near oxford. the national reporting... governor pat mccrory declared a weather service confirmed that a tornado touched down wednesday afternoon along huntsboro road. this home was destroyed you can see possessions and structural materials spilling out, - while a neighboring home was heavily damaged by a falling in the same area, this dairy barn was flattened by the storm, and a nearby greenhouse lost a lot of its roof. farm owner sears day brought in a generator to keep milking machines going. just down the road, a nearby farm also sustained heavy damage to silos and storage. to the south, in sampson county, crews worked to repair a gas station canopy that partially collapsed. in durham and chatham counties, most of the damage was caused by falling trees, like this pine tree down on a tennis court in bear creek. tarps were going up on roofs damaged by falling branches. emergency crews worked to clean up the debris and get power restored. that was laura leslie porting...vnor pat mccrory declared a state of ergency to help
