guerneville is not the only place dealing with damage from the storms. east along the river... there are problems in rio nido. this is what our helicopter partners at a-b-c 7 spotted this afternoon. a rather large mudslide... but it does not appear to have hit any buildings. and that's not all. follow the mudslide down the hill and there is a waterfall of sorts that has popped up. toss weather .. lawrence expect partly cloudy skies and a few showers tonight before slowly clearing. it should be mostly sunny, warmer and dry this weekend. the traffic nightmare continues tonight for people trying to get to or from santa cruz on highway 17.it's still not an option. there áhadá been two way traffic in the southbound lanes up until yesterdays accident which claimed the life of a worker. since then, cal - osha has shutdown work to reinforce the sliding hillside as a result, debris has been moving towards those southbound lanes. this is video from our partnership with abc 7 news. that's why 17 is now closed northbound closed at granite creek and southbound closed

but the bulk of the heavier sections in fort bragg, guerneville, bow degas bay. rain starts to roll in. out ahead of the heavier showers that are extending well offshore. so a look at the timeline. at 7:30 this morning, we see really heavy rain across the north bay. moving into san francisco as well as oakland. that will continue to advance farther south. spreading over the peninsula with the yellows and the reds on the map at 9:30 this morning. at lunchtime, we will all see heavy rain moving in including the south bay and the santa cruz mountains which will need to be watched for the potential of more flooding there. at 2:30 this afternoon, some of the heavier rain shifting out of the north bay, san francisco, oakland, fairfield. and the tri-valley. still wet roads, pouring rain. a lot of it will be farther south. we see a tapering off later on tonight. rainfall totals look to be at about an inch for many spots. could be as high as close to two inches for the santa cruz mountains. and a little bit more than an inch for the north bay. as we watch the russian rive

up the road seven homes are red- tagged in the hills north of guerneville. they have been vacant since december because of mudslides. officials say the ground is still do dangerous and unstable. >> those mountains, the hillside here is a little concerning with the coverage on the landslides and, you know, just traveling around seeing the landslides all overtown. >> neighbors say they are also worried about the russian river blocking off parts of niely road which could strand several residents. >>> in upstate california there's concern about the damaged main spillway at oroville dam in butte county. the hole is getting bigger as the level of the reservoir rises. the beg concern is the water could start flowing over a nearby hillside potentially sweeping mud and debris in the feather river below. >> we are removing the trees and vegetation in the area that would be affected by use of the emergency spillway. >> analysts say downstream communities are not in danger as engineers work to find a solution. >>> residents in portola say they have never seen the river

we are now in guerneville. this is the drake street bridge., you can see where part of the russian river has overflowed and flooded into some of the residential areas here in guerneville. you can see what looks like a pee wee golf and arcade shop closed. part of that play area is under wear. we have seen self roads that have been partially flooded and some cars even stuck in the middle of that flooded area, in the middle of the water. we spoke with a man who said he is on his phone with his sister who lives on the other side of one of the flooded roads. there's only one way in, one way out. she and her neighbors are essentially stuck on a little island for now. we asked him about the russian river. it is supposed to crest four feet above flood stage this morning. we could if he was concerned. he said this is part of life living in this area. here is what he had to say. >> all of these lower roads with the creeks, they always flood. that is just part of living on the russian river. >> how concerned are you about tomorrow? >> i'm not. i'm not. w

reportnig live in guerneville.nd the flooding could be worse tomorrow in some areas -- like guerneville. kron4 chief meteorologist brittney shipp is tracking the rising river levels in the weather center. in san rafael -- a mudslide seriously damaged a home.. and is still threatening other houses tonight. kron4's charles clifford shows us. around 8 in the morning on tuesday, the san rafael fire department responded here to mountain view avenue on reports of a tree that was about to fall. upon arrival they discovered that a mudslide had completely destroyed this home.the slide apparently happened slowly over several hours and the family that lives in the house was able to get out safely. neighbors passing by through out the day were stunned.sot it's unbelievable. it humbles yah.sotit's devastatingsot houses can be rebuilt. there just glass and wood and stuff. soti'm just glad everyone is ok.in addition to destroying this home, the mudslide also continues to threaten the homes on either side. both have been red tagge

guerneville... take a look at this... this is video from yountville in napa county. you can see just a massive pool of water partially submerging a tree. this video was sent in by a kron 4 viewer yesterday. there have been many reports of flooding all over napa county and today's storm may cause more flooding in that area. stunning video out of the north bay, where a mudslide has destroyed a home along a quiet street in san rafael. this was video taken tuesday morning along mountain view avenue. the home you see here is now considered a total loss. kron 4's charles clifford has the details. natswednesday evening, this devastated home along mountain view avenue in san rafael remained taped off for safety reasons. . so far, no effort has been made to remove the debris partly because heavy rain is in the immediate forecast and there's a good chance that the damage could get worse.the hillside behind the house is now mostly exposed dirt. the grass and shrubs that had been holding the soil together . . . are gone. the two homes on either side of the house remain are red t

this is how the russian river looked like five minutes away from guerneville on highway 116. the river swollen and muddy. it's also been a busy morning for caltrans and tree trimming trucks keeping highway 116 clear. there were trees that had toppled over and pulling down some of the overhead cable lines. the crews had to shut down highway 116 earlier this morning to fix that problem. firefighters and some of the residents we have spoken to here says this is what it means to be close to the russian river. they're not totally alarmed by the flooding that has happened. after a number of drought years, they didn't see anything like this. but this is not the first time this has happened out here. flooding is part of life for the folks who live, especially in the low lying areas out here in guerneville. >> thank you, allie. we will stay on tomorrow morning's storm throughout the day. we hope you join us for at noon. the other storm will move in tomorrow morning. you can take us with you any time through the free ktvu weather app. >>> it seems that michael jordan wasn't impressed b

the russian river in guerneville, a flood warning here.et perspective now with rob may yeda on how much water we sooef seen. >> rainfall in the last three days adds you're about to see in the santa cruz mountains, 5 to 8 inches plus. that has fallen since sunday. and you can see the north bay, 3 to 4 inches of rain. in the case of the santa cruz mountains, since january 1st. you've had 30 inches of rain, 50% or 60% of what you see in an entire year. north bay, you're seeing rainfall totals, as much as 80% of average. as the rain continues to come down, another storm on the way, the ground is just too saturated. >> the next storm system is going to cause more residual problems with the rainfall that we've seen from october 1st, 20 to 40 inches for parts of the north bay. a look at wednesday's forecast, scattered areas of rainfall in the morning, possibly for the evening. but again it's about thursday in the morning for that heaviest rainfall to return up towards napa and sonoma counties. orange and yellow is the heavier rainfall that we exp
