[snortg] >> good afternoon. thank you for joining us. today is a major milestone in our sf park program. it is a new system of managing parking in the city and county of san francisco. the mta was fortunate enough to receive a $25 million partnership grant to look at ways to help with congestion in urban cities and find a way to do with pricing. rather than looking at toll booths and things of that nature, we thought it would be a more elegant solution to look at where the cars are going better actually trying to park. by making parking easier and getting better data, we believe we will have a strategy that will reduce congestion on city streets. over 30% of the contestant dickcongest -- congestion is related to automobiles looking for parking. we want to provide better data in terms of the sensors on the street. they will have a real time information needed for 511, through the website, or through their smart phones to receive information as to where parking is available in the city. the parking will be made available because we're going

[no audio] >> we usually end our meeting in memory of staff members who have been a part of our family who have passed away. so we do have many members of some of the schools here today presently, so i'm going to actually pull this up to the beginning. and so i want to ask the principal of mission high school to come up first. >> thank you very much. thank you, demigsers -- commissioners. on behalf of the mission high school community, i want to read a bit about kathleen cecil. sadly she passed away on wednesday evening after suffering a brain aneurysm monday on the opening day of school, which has really rocked the community, though we are blessed to have a wonderful, supportive community that rallied around each other, including families, staff, and most importantly students who have been very strong and wonderful. so i'll read this. kathleen cecil, beloved english teacher was a kind, caring, quite funny, sometimes painfully honest and loving teacher, colleague and of course friend to all of us here at mission high school. kathleen spent much of her life dedicated to teaching and nurturing students with a passion that is rare. ms. cecil develop the lessons that challenged and inspired all other students. she was a lifelong and fierce advocate for social justice for everyone. it was not an unfamiliar sight to see ms. cecil move gracefully from the classroom to a march in the streets advocating for civil rights and equity for everyone. to put it plainly, kathleen was a loving force of nature. once you met her, you never forgot her. having had the blessing of working with ms. cec

[snortg] >> i have 2 job titles. i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. this building is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a building built like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world.
