one man who is watching the storm at and the convention closely is former mississippi governor haley know chairman of the republican national convention in the 1990s. we're pleased to have him here. just a moment about the storm and mississippi because you were there. what's the damage to mississippi and how is mississippi handling it? >> it's been a large storm, mostly a rain event. the winds haven't been that bad. a little flooding in low areas. but i predict charlie, a month from now, we'll look back and the biggest damage will be crop damage. if we get 20 inches of rain in mississippi larks la and arkansas, it will be a multibillion dollar crop damage because there's huge soybean crop in the field. there's a cotton crop in the field. that's going to be the biggest economic damage, i fear. >> bringing you back to the convention, what's the highlight for you so farr? paul ryan after condoleeza rice wowed the crowd with a sort of red meat that you expect may be his role? >> i thought he was very good and there was red meat in the speech and it was also a lot of substance in the spee

and haley barbour in mississippi. some guys do well in these things. ray nagin didn't do well.s the trick to handle a hurricane? >> work with people, be on the ground, be on-site, make sure you're plugged in with local leaders in counties and cities throughout your state wherever this might happen. i think that's probably what governor jindal is doing right now and that's very important for him to be cog. we would stay in touch with local representatives, also our federal partners. whenever one of these storms came in it's important to have all hands on deck, have a real cooperative attitude, do what's right to protect your people. >> let me ask about the florida race for presidency. this state is in play. this state has a lot of seniors, they're nervous about medicare, they don't like it being changed. where's your feeling on that? we have a lot of minorities, not just cuban-americans but hispanics. how is that going to work come november? >> i think it's going to work well. probably one of the most diverse states in the country. i think being open to diversity is important. i
