>> hallie, i spoke to people who were on that call, to a tee.he was taking it seriously and very sympathetic, and everything coming from the white house and every other building in washington are saying right things. but what they tried to convey to the secretary on this call, more than an hour he spent with them, is that that is of not trickling down. on the day-to-day level, they're still facing a bureaucratic nightmare. the state department's bureau of medical services still telling people when they come forward to report suspicious incidents. oh, you're stressed. you're getting older. this is kind of what happens when you get older. your brain doesn't work as well. they are not able to get the assurances, as well as the medical care, trying to get services at walter reed. and some other benefits that have passed by legislation, without all kinds of bureaucratic hurdles. and one of the reasons they say they're still facing this skepticism, and really this stigmaization, the fact that the state department, they're not calling this attacks. >>

thanks, hallie. it's good to be here.know, the issue for the committee really is not just one of getting them to testify, but getting them to testify fast. they have a pretty narrow window of time to get this investigation done, so the first step they're going to take is to hold people in contempt if they need to and that's a matter of going to a court and saying force this person to testify or make them face either civil sanctions, finals or criminal sanctions potentially. in the past, that's been a nonstarter because you've had, you know, a trump justice department that wasn't eager to try to enforce any sort of criminal contempt and that process can take a very long time. so what we were hearing from some of the committee members was they may go the other direction and offer immunity to some of on these witnesses, a very specific type of immunity to allow them to testify without fear of prosecution. >> can we go back to this point on executive privilege because you write that it is, quote, perhaps the most important we

nbc's senior washington correspondent hallie jackson has more.d morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, craig. this is significant. the supreme court psi loent no longer wanting them to step in and block the law on an emergency basis. overnight the court in a split 5-4 decision said it would not do that, at least not right now. here's what the law does it effectively bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, about six weeks into a pregnancy, before some women even realize they're pregnant, and no exceptions for rape or incest the law tries to make it harder to challenge in court. instead of tasking state officials with enforcing it, it gives incentives for people to file private lawsuits against anybody considered to be helping with an abortion even somebody who, for example, drives a patient to the clinic at the court, conservative justices and majority arguing they aren't addressed complex procedural questions but left the door open to challenges. chief justice john roberts joined the three more liberal members of the court in diss
