near hampton road and king avenue. nbc bay area's velena jones is learning more about the victims tonight, and what police say may have led to that crash. tonight, friends and community members are consoling each other and laying flowers at the site of a deadly triple fatal crash in piedmont. early this morning, a cybertruck carrying four people hit a retaining wall and caught fire. it's just devastating. just. i feel so sorry for those families. i can't imagine what they are going through. piedmont police say an iphone alerted dispatchers to the crash. investigators say the driver of a second vehicle who knew the victims managed to pull one person out of the burning truck before first responders arrived. eileen de soto is friends with the surviving young man's family. i know that he's had surgery. he has. he's in recovery. he is. he has some burns. the victims names have not been made public, but de soto says two men and one woman died. she describes the victims as friends and popular athletes who graduated from piedm

again, hampton at king avenue. three people have died as a result of this crash in piedmont in the piedmont hills. meanwhile, we're looking at the freeways alongside of them, and that's more indicative of the morning commute. so on the surface street intersection, there's one deadly crash that we're looking at, but there's another one as well, also in contra costa county. i wanted to give you a nice chance to see all the light traffic volume, and no real slowing except for this one area of southbound 680, where early this morning there was a deadly crash here too. yes, another deadly crash. this one on southbound 680 at crow canyon road. reports of a pedestrian running across the freeway getting hit by a vehicle and now you possibly only have your fast lane open. i hear that possibly two of your left lanes are open, but don't count on that as you're traveling through san ramon because of the light traffic volume, it's only about a five minute delay and no reroutes necessary right now. we'll continue to track that.

now this is in the areas of seaview avenue in hampton road. it's not too far from crocker park. so that is what happened this morning. and police have been on the scene essentially since then. now, when it comes to how many people exactly were involved. we know that it was the 4 of us acela crash. there was another person who was driving by. they actually extracted that 4th person who is in the hospital right now from the cybertruck. as to the condition of that person. we're still waiting for updates. we did have a team at the press conference that happened at 9.30 this morning. at that point, police officials say they do not believe that the cybertruck had any type of coaches or anything. they're still investigating. but they say the battery was not on fire. just other parts of that cybertruck less. so back out here live again. you can see neighbors now showing up here to the area where these 3 people lost their lives, leaving flowers and a lot of people really just giving their condolences. so as we get more information today, either from neighbors or from police will continue
