cnn's paula hancocks is there. paula, good morning.m to be okay were he went to beijing? >> well, victor and poppy, he certainly seemed to be in good spirits. he looked clearly relieved, we could see as he was walking through beijing airport and said he was very good. we understand he was in good health which is why he was allowed on that flight. of course, the question is, why was he leased? it was a very sudden move. of course, north korea made a sudden move when they decided to arrest him back in october. they worked with newman during the korean war. more than 60 years ago. they say he was leading part of an antique communist guerilla group. this was basically carrying out undercover operations in north korea. this could well have been the reason that north korea arrested him in the first place. remember that video they released last weekend where he was apologizing for his actions during the korean war and allegedly killing civilians. it's not clear whether that was a coerced statement. it could well have been. this was likely the

tavis: i'm wondering if there's something to the fact that artists from tina turner to herbie hancock to richard gere who have turned to this. >> richard is a great practitioner, isn't he, and has been for a long time. for me, because i wasn't raised religious -- my family -- i am finnish on my mothers side -- there is a long line of agnostics or atheists. there was no religion practiced at home. nobody i really knew around me was religious, my family members. it kind of left almost like a blank slate to find something at some point in my life. i was fortunate enough to be in a place where there was a monastery nearby, so i was able to study with some of the monks and rinpoches. what they said had a tremendous weight for me. it made more sense than putting my faith into, like, one god or whatever, a practice, that way. this was really an internal practice of, like, trying to learn these kind of -- the dharma, the life lessons, and to find a way to see life in a new perspective. to actually look out at the world in a new and elevated way. so, that, to me -- i'm sure people find solace
