she lives in harlem with her husband james and their three legged dog, nadine. next is nikki hargrove. she's a graduate of bard and currently serves as a member of the school's board of governors and chair of the alumni diversity, a lambda literary nonfiction fellow. she's written about adoption, marriage, motherhood and the prison system for the washington post, the guardian, the new times, scary mommy and shonda land. this is her first time joining us, the boston book festival. and then we have tom seeman. he's a business person who has owned led several businesses. he grew up in a family of 14 on welfare and food stamps in the projects of toledo, ohio so he earned his b.a. in economics from yale, where he wrote on the protein and graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa before going to earn his jd at harvard. so i think now you can see why this panel is called rising above all these authors shared traumatic challenges, difficult childhoods and very different circumstances. yet they're here us today as accomplished authors, sharing really inspiring stories
