there is a blizzard warning in hawaii. >> yeah.ist allison chinchar. allison, i never thought i would ask anyone this, how much snow is hawaii supposed to get? >> it's actually going to be quite a lot. now, i want to emphasize it's going to be isolated to the mountain peaks on the big island. they actually get snow there every single year. blizzard warning, not as common. it's been 3 1/2 years since the last blizzard warning on the island of hawaii. they're expecting up to a foot of snow across the area. elsewhere, flood watches because it's going to be warmer and lower in elevations we're talking rain here. it's also going to be pretty substantial winds. that's the blizzard part comes in. you've got some areas dealing with 80 to 100-mile-per-hour winds at the peak. those are going to be the gusts the sustained winds slightly less than. rain fall, four to six inches, some of these areas not to get up to ten inches. and there are parts of hawaii that have actually have more snow this winter than places in the lower 48. including den

it's not unusual to see snow in hawaii. 11,000 feet or high.during the winter season. and today is no different. but it's the amount of snow and it's the wind that's going to accompany it. that's why the national weather service has issued blizzard warnings for some of the highest elevations. the big island. 1 to 4 inches possible. 12 inches of snow on a volcano, incredible. we barely are that in the colorado rockies, look across the hawaiian archipelago, and with the satellite imagery that we've noticed, picking up on the snow pack on mauna loa, you see the top portion of the volcano that indeed is the snow that's formed on that region lately. an area that wished they had snow is colorado. i wish it. many of the skiers and snowboarders do as well. obviously, the drought trends in the wrong direction. 98% under minimal snow pack. they'll have to wait until the end of this week to get any measurable snow and they'll take it because people steve amrolle past the most measurable snowfall. 227 days and counting. kim. >> yeah, i know if you don't ge

when you say catastrophic flooding in hawaii, we know portions of the islands across hawaii here amongespread coverage of flood warnings, flood watches across this region from maui points all away across the big island. significant rainfall in place. the forecast continues to bring in a very potent and slow-moving system that's going to produce another round of very heavy rainfall. again, near the top of the charts when you see in excess of 10 to 15 inches and in some areas pushing 20 inches in just a matter of a few days. that's across the hawaiian islands. across portions of the northern united states, minnesota in particular, significant snowfall, about 1 1/2 to almost 2 feet in a few spots. notice the coverage here across portions of minnesota and north dakota. 12, 14, 16 inches of snowfall accumulating there in the last couple of days. you notice blizzard warnings still in place for blizzard conditions, including places such as fargo. so that northern tier of the u.s., a couple million people underneath these alerts. about a million people across the u.s. scattered from that regio
