thank you, chief hayes white, for being here as well, and other department heads and other commissioners, thank you for joining us as well. we have 25 individuals today who are sacrificing a lot of personal time, sacrificing their own family's time away for night meetings, a lot of reading of paperwork, a lot of public engagement. we also have some 15 different bodies that you'll be appointed to today. and, so, it is my pleasure to welcome you and to suggest to you that i personally appreciate citizens of san francisco stepping forward to help us manage this city. it never is ever about one office. it's not even about two offices. it's about how we conduct ourselves to reach out, engage people in the public to help serve our city. your ideas, your engagement with us, you're aligning where we want to go to make the city a greater city is really the essence of managing a city. and i've learned that in many, many years of being a public serve ant, being an advocate to make sure the city represented its own diversity, of using that diversity as our strength, and going forward each of you are

san francisco fire chief hayes white. fire and port commissioner [speaker not understood].g commission president rodney fong, and aloe ons and aloe ons of vips among you out there. so, thank you all for joining us today. ~ in the 45 years since that beautiful song was written, our own san francisco port waterfront has transformed. so, nothing has stayed exactly the same, we're proud to say. and just like sitting on the dock of the bay is a jewel among otis redding's collection, the new braniff street wharf is a jewel among the port's park open space collection, and we are so amazingly proud of it. it has taken a very long time and hundreds of people. the transformation of this kind of a waterfront doesn't come easy. for those of you who know it keenly, it was a thousand feet of failing edge, dilapidated pier and a tried but true seawall. and today as you look around, it is a thousand feet of public space, a place where we can walk along and experience the bay peacefully, playfully, we can gather here, we can work here, we can recreate here and we can celebrate here. and i a

i also want to recognize chief hayes white, and sheriff mirkarimi, thank you all for being here and for showing your support. i want to introduce someone i felt was really important to make sure that we connect how this is going to affect the members of our first responder department on an individual basis. and i want to introduce someone who has been a part of the sheriff's department for ten years here in san francisco formerly a cadet here in city hall, now part of the investigative services unit, has been renting in san mateo, i understand, for the last five years and is looking to purchase a home here in san francisco. and one of those first responders that we are proud to have not only working for us as a city, but someone that we want to encourage to live within our city limits. allow me to introduce to you mercy ambat.
