but it's powering in hayward and union city. oakland to berkeley you're getting a break but it's raining out in walnut creek. and we're seeing showers in marin county and sonoma county. the rain will remain active within the next several hours. the santa cruz mountains the burn zone from the fires this summer without vegetation you could get flash flooding rather rapidly. we may see that over the next couple of days. that's a view of santa cruz mountains with heavy rain. higher elevations, nearly 2- inches of rainfall. kentfield and ben lomond. three hour arrival delays at sfo airport, and freemont you've been in the rain shadow, yes it's been raining but not nearly as much. 49 for concord. 55 for freemont, san rafael 48. and rainy tonight in san francisco. windy as well. there's a wind advisory in effect until 1:00 in the morning. we could see some wind gusts to 40 to 50 miles per hour. why the change? cold and dry for like a week and a half. now we're soggy and warmer that's because our source of air is no longer coming down f

but as we come in closer here toward portions of the east pay, there you can see closer to hayward and union city, dublin, and pleasanton, so we do have downpours for this portion of the region. the south bay, not as much coverage, but around san mateo and redwood city, still have some rainfall nearby. here is the bigger picture out here in the pacific. what is key here is what we call an atmospheric river. you see the clouds condense in this one year, being focused toward this bay area. it's set up yesterday, and it will set up again this weekend. this weekend could be even more than intense. potential rainfall could be 2 to 6 inches for the coastalle hills. so that will will be a serious flood concern as the water continues to build up. still some scattered rain showers in san francisco this morning, and then into the afternoon hours. we scale back on the coverage, and the probability. can't guarantee a completely dry forecast, but still a chance of some showers later on today. in fact, here is our forecast model right now, 5:00 al, and then 7:00, still some rain out there. but then some more b

also wet and rainy up through santa rosa, a break in napa but 80, a delta, and across the san mateo bridge in union city, 680, hayward fremont, san mateo, millbrae, you've got showers and around highway 35 it is wet into the santa cruz mountains. it's been snowing steadily and chain controls here with a winter storm warning in effect until monday morning. 2 1/2 feet expected above 4,000 feet and we're looking at some very gusty winds, winds gusting to about 30 miles an hour. so, temperatures in the 40s, low 50s, it is foggy in livermore, so yeah, we are just stuck in this wet, wet pattern. adding to it, we have some monster surf out there with westerly swells anywhere from 24 to 28 feet, right in there tomorrow, so very dangerous, and we are expecting ponding on roadways, stream and creek flooding, power outages, and the possibility of some river flooding around guerneville, san anselmo creek, and also debris flows very high due to the saturated soils and the flood watch in effect right through tomorrow so we're looking at that ponding, likely as the very heavy rain gets going late tonight and lasts through early sun

and it's coming down hard. over to the east in union city, 880 in hayward and fremont, looking at good downpours and up towards ma rauga and 680. and then it latents up around vallejo and westward around marin county, and the front is going through sonoma, and they have flood warnings throughout the morning hours due to the excessive runoff, so the good news is that the first part of the front is pushing through the north bay and we will begin to see the rain temporarily come to an end. take a look at this satellite picture. there's the area of cold front already pushing through and the winds will dial back, but did you see that? a lightning strike. that's what we are going to get into this afternoon. heavy downpours with thunderstorms and small hail possible. still a thunderstorm warning, so nothing is changing here. still the amounts are excessive in terms of snow, and we already had a couple feet, an additional two feet likely, and temperatures this morning in the 50s, and it's a mild atmosphere, and still ahead of the front for most of you, and the winds are gusting to 43 miles per hour in oakland, and loo

towards 10th street, willow glen around 280 and 101 in the south bay and also right there, you can see union city heading northward toward hayward, huntwood avenue and hayward boulevard about to get puddles and standing water. flash flooding means it happens a lot faster and it's going to be an issue through midnight so you have to act immediately. power outages once again and trees down, noon until midnight, winds as fast as they were yesterday, winds are going to affect sfo from about 1:00 this afternoon to 1:00 tonight. and high tide is going to flood some of our coastal areas and also along the bay shore from now possibly until thursday. >>> okay, i want to take you back down to the santa cruz mountains. all kinds of issues here, most notably the big land slide around vine hill yesterday. jessica castro confirm and had her photographer were able to drive through on the northbound side so crews really doing a great job of getting that cleaned up, kwot goth the roadway back open and last time we checked this, several miles of delay there. on the northbound side, that has done a nice job of thinning out. but that being said, a

hayward here and you have 12 miles per hour in the area. so give yourself some extra time if you are heading here. if you can avoid it, that's good. so from hayward or fremont or union city into oakland, take mission boulevard to 580 instead to get to the maze. now, here's a live look at the nimitz freeway, from 238 in san leandro to the maze that will now take you up to 40 minutes so it's looking good once you get past the accident scene there. if you are taking southbound 880 to the san mateo bridge, here's a live look at that very slow commute from hayward into foster city. and, of course, we have slow conditions on the altamont pass just 13 miles per hour to 26 miles per hour once you hit north flynn road but north tracy boulevard to the altamont pass will take you 40 minutes and if you want to avoid all of that traffic i just told but mass transit is a good idea. that's on time. art, ace train, muni and caltrain on time. >>> my friend richard just texted me this picture from livermore saying, it's cold out here. and we got frost on the windshields. take a look at that. you need the ice scraper. or like michelle, use a credit card. that seems to do the trick, right,

from san mateo to palo alto, some light rain falling and it's still steady as you head from union city and farther off toward the east and from hayward and seeing that extending toward the tri-valley. right now temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. this is where temperatures will hold steady as we go through the day and even as we catch some breaks with low visibility there as you see the bay bridge and that san francisco camera shot. as we go into the rest of the day, seeing much of this rain tapering, a little bit of chance to dry out. still, a chance of rain at any point today, especially in the north bay where there will still be a stream of moisture dipping in. the flood warnings have been dropped and that's great news as we get a little bit of a break before a stronger system moves in this weekend. between saturday and sunday we see the bulls eye over the santa cruz mountains with some very intense rain on the way with this atmospheric river streaming subtropical moisture into the bay area and even next week more rain in the forecast. so looking good as we try to put a dent in this drought but we don't need flooding in all of t

and i just saw a speck of orange. that's a tremendous downpour that's happening just outside bellevue. east bay you have some pretty moderate to heavy downpours around oakland to san leandro, hayward, union city. so this encompasses 580/238 commute this morning. rain in pleasanton, livermore, sub noel grade into san jose. meanwhile in boulder creek redwood grove in the san lorenzo park these are areas prone to flood. we are expecting four more inches of rain over the next 24 hours. a bit of a break around the peninsula but in the city by the bay, the city of san francisco, harrison street, mission street, cargo way into the bayview district, you have some heavy rainfall there. you know what i'm talking about if you live there. heavy raindrops hitting the rooftops. bay bridge gusty winds heavy rain at this time. all this will be through the morning commute and intensify at times during the day through the evening commute. this is why we do have a flash flood watch in effect for that blue highlighted area. yellow is the coastal flood advisory in effect for beach erosion coinciding with astronomical high tide. we have it all going on. the winds are below freezing but will be gusty later. 16 san
