at&t is making a good go of it for hbo max, for example.l of hbo combined is less than 4% of at&t, so while it is a good story, fundamentally it's got to be about other businesses for them. jonathan: michael, i am trying to work out why the walt disney company has done nothing all year. the stock has done nothing after a huge move into year-end. michael: we had those two huge moves, and it went to a level that you had to do a lot of price multiples to justify where it was. everyone had a chance to buy it at the investor day. they did. they were not buyers at that level. we were neutral on the stock. we thought it had overshot valuations. now it is going to grind lower, and there will be some point where we are constructive on it, but we had a hard time looking at some of the parts. we are earnings and cash flow analysts. we thought, let's just wait for a better entry point. jonathan: let's talk about what drives that better entry point. what do you think is a catalyst for a move lower from here? michael: i think some of the air coming out o

hbo max, envision, discovery plus.selves between live and on demand. netflix for example venturing into live. i would guess there is not a strategic reason to divest cnn at this point or any time soon. maria: how did the at&t time warner deal work out for tv prices? that's one thing the doj is going to look at, whether or not a deal between warner assets and discovery would mean higher tv prices. what's your take there? >> you know, frankly that deal hasn't really had any major meaningful impact on pricing. what has happened though is that the acceleration of streaming and the price competition that we have seen in the past few years has kind of had a downward pressure on pricing but the overall pay-tv bundle remains pretty -- out growing inflation and that's not going to change any time soon, frankly. so what the regulators can do is to attach -- you know, make some conditions that will lapse over a period of time but ultimately the long-term trend is for higher prices way above the inflation rate. maria: yeah. i'm gl

now, merging cnn, hbo, oprah, hd -- hd tv, what is your take on this deal? neil: i think it's a great deal for discovery and the shareholders, at&t shareholders. i think they are getting back to their roots as a telecom company. we have seen verizon do something similar. i think if you look at something like comcast, the difference with nbc universal and warner media below is something that nbc universal, comcast got that at a discount building it back , up and it's at a high level. warner media was being pretty well-run prior to at&t. i think there is a cultural disconnect. by spinning out the assets and combining it with discovery, i think they are mocking some of the values that have been hitting in the at&t wireline wireless business. emily: let's talk about what david zaslav said. try to keep talent on, including jason, who has been running warner media. what do you expect and what do you think zaslav should do in terms of the more premium assets and more premium executives? neil: i think he has to keep some of these guys on. i won't say who specificall

host: the hbo documentary, titled our town. me begin with the point you make in the trailer, james. what is the common denominator in these communities that are rising? guest: i think the common denominator is that almost every place in the u.s., through history, and certainly every one of the towns we filmed in the movie, has had problems. if it is west virginia, they have had coal problems. if it is mississippi, they have historical problems and down through the list. the fascinating part, the connecting link was that the time when national politics in the united states, as you know more than anybody, has been dysfunctional. we found the functionality evident at the state, local and regional level, of people saying we can figure out a way to move forward even though we don't agree on everything under the sun. if you want an example of american minded practicality, it exists. host: how did you determine which towns and cities to visit? guest: it was an evolving process, steve. at first, jim put a post on his blog at the atlant
