mission here. >> heather. yeah, mike and claudine monroe's crew has returned home, happy to be back for the holiday. they came directly from san diego, where they offloaded 15 tons of seized cocaine with an estimated street value of about $335 million. there were a lot of hugs as family members welcomed the crew in alameda. as you can expect, munro, along with coast guard cutters vigorous hamilton and the uss saint louis, intercepted 11 suspected drug smuggling vessels off the coast of mexico and central and south america in september and october alone. the coast guard releasing video of one of the encounters that involved a low slung, near surface vessel that was powered by four outboard engines. the munro crew is trained to be on the lookout for these types of vessels, as well as drones and submersibles used by cartels to smuggle illegal drugs, as well as money. >> what we do in the eastern pacific is we do the counter drug mission. so a lot of cocaine and things like that are smuggled into central america,

i'm heather holmes, fueled by concerns about crime. voters are pushing back and supporting the recalls. a crystal bailey live now for us in the newsroom. and crystal, it is still early with a lot of ballots here yet to be counted. >> that's right heather, potentially more than 500,000 more ballots to be exact. even though organizers of the recalls are celebrating a victory. neither oakland mayor shang tao nor d.a. pamela price have conceded, and the registrar of voters says it could be a couple of weeks before they have the results. poll workers are hard at work in alameda county, sorting through hundreds of thousands of ballots. >> the processing of the vote by mail takes time. we have to take a look at the signatures. we have to sort them in precinct order. we got to open them and remove the ballots. >> as of wednesday, the preliminary numbers show a majority of the 49,000 counted ballots are for ousting tao. similarly, nearly 65% of about 200,000 voters want price gone with both races at a 30% margin. oakland action rising endorsed

manitoba -- i have to give credit to heather for pointing this out to me. we are seeing governments try to streamline. there was work to be done on actual streamlining. other good news, there are brownfield investment sites and former mines abandoned that have infrastructure that could easily be deployed. we have heard earlier about how long it takes to build the pipeline, how long it takes. all of those are equally true on the mining site. if you have connectors and roads, that is important. government incentives have been important, including those in the ira and some efforts in canada. the challenge that we will get you is oneo f w-- one of whether the timing of incentives matches the long lead times. the other good news i see is that there is government learning. we saw in the last week or so adjustments to the tax incentives from the inflation reduction act 45x that closed the loophole and make it more valuable for companies in the u.s. to use to mystic mining. -- domestic mining. the element of industry speaking up and saying there is a real problem a

i have to give credit to heather for pointing this out with me. coming up with a one-stop shop in this space. we are seeing government trying to streamline the there is still work to be done on actual streamlining. other good news, there are brownfield investment sites that were abandoned and actually already have infrastructure that could more easily be deployed. it is really important including those in the ira here in the united states and some efforts in t canada. the challenge that we will sort of get to is one of the timing of those incentives matching with thed long wait times. the other good news that i see is there has been government warning. i saw in the last week or so, adjustments to the tax incentives from the inflation reduction act that actually made it more valuable for companies in the u.s. to use domestic mining. that element of industry speaking up and saying there is a real problem and trying to sort of close that loophole, i think thatin that is a positive sign. i think the chinese using their export bans are actually reinfor

let's bring in criminal defense attorney heather hansen. heather, good to see you. a model inmate. she has been disciplined several times including for engaging in acts with two corrections officers at the women's correctional center in columbia, south carolina. should she get out? >> she should not get out and she most likely will not get out. that is one thing the parole board will consider, in addition in south carolina 8% of parolees are actually released, and it's less likely to happen here because it's the first time before the board. she has a notorious case it makes it less likely, and the family members and prosecutors are still adamant she belongs behind bars so all of those things together make it very unlikely. >> john: the former prosecutor involved in her case said to a local newspaper the belief was she would spend her time thinking about michael and alex, her two children. it is clear she hasn't been thinking about michael and alex. the judicial system is set up to, if somebody is open to it, remorse, reform, thinking about what you did, coming to te

as heather mentioned, the indigenous resource network is relatively new. it was organized around -- there is not enough usefulness or practicalness or pragmatic discourse in media and there is not enough -- we felt the perspective was lacking in terms of policy development. there were a lot of gaps there. through conversations, we have organized around that purpose. we stood up with a pole. i think we felt indigenous people are really participating in this industry. why are we seeing so much public perspective and media that indigenous people are against resource develop and. so, week. queried indigenous people across canada. 25% were on the fence. a lot of indigenous people did support it which affirmed what we felt. it is important and we built up our poles and strategy around that. how do we get policy that is aligned with our values in terms of sustainability and also say we want to develop. we realize the benefits and the impact that is happening. we want to influence the sustainability. we want to influence public perspective and investor sentiment.
