joining me now, former republican presidential candidate herman cain. oblem here, herman? >> not really. first of all, remember that polls represent a trend. and i agree with dana, we have a long way to go. and the thing about the fact that these polls don't necessarily reflect the mood of the trump supporters, many of them aren't participating in the polls. here's what i believe are the two reasons why donald trump has the highest fear factor that you pointed out. first, remember a lot of people in the media, they spoon-feed the public with just negative perceptions of a particular candidate, whether that's donald trump or whether that's hillary clinton. a lot of it for hillary clinton is true, but they also spoon-feed a lot of negative impressions of donald trump. secondly, the democrats do a good job of dividing people by pandering to different groups, because the republicans started out with 17 candidates and now it's down to three, most of the time what donald trump really stands for that would help everybody doesn't come through. so i believe that

and in a moment we'll be joined by herman cain. the reversal on this abortion position was swift, it was a complete 180. this is the reaction that we've seen in some conservative corners tonight, including on national review suggesting that donald trump just hasn't seriously thought these issues through. your thoughts? >> what i thought was most interesting is the part that hasn't gotten much attention, when he was saying he wanted to go back to where there were illegal abortion clinics. nobody wants that. the pro-life factions of america don't want to go back to that, nor do the pro-choice factions of america. the pro-life will go back to a culture that supports adoption where people are encouraged to have children and welcome them into families. that is just a really disturbing part of that, that he felt that sort of culture was something you would want to go back to. >> what we've seen is a fee reversals by donald trump. he did a 180 on this abortion, women need to be punished if they have an abortion, which is not the pro-life

herman cain. it's very hard to say exactly what mitt romney is going to do but it's raised some concerns that, wait a minute, add to the confusion. again, there is nothing that would indicate that he wants to do that or will do that. we'll get a better idea tomorrow. ashley, we'll begin with you. if he doubles down on the tax thing, mitt romney tomorrow, or mitt romney himself declares that he's going to come back in this race, then what? >> well, i don't think he's going to do that. what i think he's going to do is bring himself into the conversation and i think he'll do that quite smartly. i think right now hell has no fury like a party scorned. and after super tuesday, they are in full freakout mode right now. and having mitt romney come out, no matter what announcement he makes tomorrow, he's, again, injecting himself into the conversation and making himself a possible viable nominee if people want to rally around him. that's what they need to look at here. despite what he says, he's inserting

reaction from former gop presidential candidate herman cain.erman, what do you make of these polls that show kasich doing so well in a general election, even cruz, while they have donald trump losing and sometimes badly to hillary? >> well, let's remember that polls represent a trend based upon the spoon-fed perception that people have gotten from various sources of media. that's number one. secondly, when donald trump has been leading so much, he's been attacked so much so there are so many sound bites out there, negatively attacking him, that helps to explain the big differential. now, the good news is, a poll also tells you what you need to do to change the perception. and now that the field of republican candidates have been widdled down to a three-person race, essentially, i believe whoever the nominee can work on closing that gap, whoever it is, between hillary and the republican nominee. so it's a trend but reality -- perception is reality for the time being. >> what's the source of the trend? in other words, what is the main reason? i k
